What are my chances:

GPA ~2.8
Science gpa~ 2.7

Didn't take my DATs yet, plan to take them this summer.

I have a lot of Extracredit activities, and I am currently studying at UCLA Extension to raise my GPA.

What should I be doing?

Definitely do super super super well on the DAT! Like 24's all across.....unless you want to apply to 30 schools and possibly waste a couple of thousand dollars.

Okay, so here's the deal, you have a really low gpa (not by my standards, simply relative to those who are applying and get accepted), so you need to do super on the DAT. To be honest, I've never seen anyone get accepted (here in Texas) with anything below a 2.9. For example, one person had a 2.98 and had a 24 on their DAT and only got accepted to one school here in Texas (recently).

So what I'm trying to say is, you might have to retake some of ur science classes. However, don't listen to just me, that is only my opinion. Go talk with the admissions at the dental schools in your state, they will know for sure what you should do.

And be sure to study really hard for the DAT anyways, it is an essential part of the process.

Does retaking classes look bad for you application? i don't mean to hijack your thread, but I had a very high gpa until this semester, where I will come out with 3 a's and a c. that c will bring my gpa down considerably (i've had all a's in the rest of my science classes) Is it beneficial to retake it and go for an A?

I don't want to sound rude... but your chances are slim to none with that GPA. Do everything you can to raise it up at least over a 3.0 and ace that DAT!

Looks like you will need a masters with over a 3.8 in it. You will also require over a 20 on the dat, a 22 even.

How many credits do you currently have?

@Doctor Baby, the classes that i would retake are ones i got c- in because some/most dental schools dont consider a c- passing.

i dont really see any reason why you should retake a class that you got a c in. when you retake a class, both the old and new grades will calculated into your AADSAS gpas. also retaking classes that you got a c in just seems like a waste of time. why not finish some other required classes?

@op, this may seem like common sense, but the higher your gpa the higher your chances are. same thing with the dat. the higher your dat the higher your chances. there is really no secret formula. i would recommend getting that gpa over a 3.0.

Despite what everyone is saying: 3.0s do get in, but yes as others said you need a killer DAT score.
