What are my chances?

If you were offered an interview at UT Houston and UT San Antonio, your slightly-lower-than-the-mean GPA and MCAT for their acceptees, and PS score of 7 must not be an issue (even though the bottom 10 percent for acceptees had a PS of 8). I'm not familiar with Texas schools, and you did not get very specific about your clinical exposure and research, but there must be something in your ECs or PS that appealed to the adcomm. Once you are offered an interview, the playing field is leveled and you have a good chance at an acceptance if you shine while interacting with your interviewers.

Consider searching for and reading relevant threads in pre-allo about Texas schools, and you might get more insight into your relative chances of acceptance, and what those schools are looking for.

If you learn more or find a good link, please report back so the rest of us can add to our databases, too.

So I have had 3 interviews at UTH UTHSCSA and TCOM
All three resulted in waitlists

Planning on retaking the MCAT and my GPA after Spring of 2009 is around a 3.75
I am also interviewing for a position in a cancer research lab for the year between graduation and start up of medical school.

Mobius Thanks again for your input sorry to not have gotten back for the update until now

I appreciate that you checked back to let us know how your application season was progressing. After May 15, there will be a lot of waitlist movement, so don't give up hope yet. I still think it's good that you are planning ahead, just in case you don't get good news.

Don't forget to update your MDAPPS.

Yeah I know there is a waitlist movement, It really sucks though to still not know what your life is holding even after this year long process. Be that as it may, I am kinda looking forward to this year off, saving some money (2 jobs) spending time with my wife so it should be good.

MD APPS has been updated.

Also a letter of interest was sent to UT-H via e-mail. UTHSCSA does not accept any type of such correspondence...I asked, and made very clear in my asking that they were my first choice. No correspondence with TCOM

So I wanted to let you know Mobius as of yesterday i was accepted to TCOM in Fort Worth!!! So very excited and just updating this thread (MDapps was also updated). Thanks again for your input!

Whoo hooooooo! Congrats. I'm sure you're feeling great right now. Time to work on an apartment or house lease. Awesome news! You're gonna be a doctor!
