Hi everyone,

I am new to this site and I wanted to ask for your opinions on my chances in getting into dental school this '09 cycle. Here are my stats:

TS: 21
AA: 20

GPA:3.568
Sci GPA: 3.49

I have two years of dental experience as a chairside dental assistant. I also volunteer at a hospital in a pediatrics clinic, and tutor children at a Community Youth center.

As for research experience, I have done Alzheimer's disease research for the past three years to show my commitment to science and learning.

I graduated in 2008 and will continue to work at the dentist office until the start of dental school in '09 if i get in...

However, I feel like am in a disadvantage for I just submitted my app on AADSAS yesterday, Sept 29th, and I have yet to pay the fees on top of that tomorrow. I also owe one letter of recommendation.

Please give me any advice as to how I'm doing and wat to expect. Thanks guys!

Well... I hope i dont disappoint you but,
In my opinion, it's kinda late...
Usually, it takes about a month for ADEA to process your AADSAS app even though they say it will take 6~8 weeks...
Then they send it to schools that you have applied, it will take another couple weeks & it will be almost end of november by then...
Schools start sending out acceptance letters when your app gets to schools...
And some schools like Case, their interview schedule is booked up till april... so, the chances of interview invitation is really slim...
I would say you still have shot for few schools even this late if you have over 22 on DAT...( coz I've seen someone getting in last year with similar situation as u)...

but you have pretty competitive & consistant DAT score and OK GPA,
if you get everything done by july next year with these stats, I'm pretty sure you'll get some interviews...

thanks for the response. Does anyone else have an opinion?

you have solid stats... if you feel that you are late, then maybe apply to your top choice schools and maybe your state schools (where you usually have the highest chance of getting in)... unless ofcourse it's case... if u don't get in this cycle, re-apply next cycles, but apply to more schools...

Being late just means you lose your shot at the first batch of interview...for instance..if a school has 80 spots, by december they may hand out 160 interviews, select 80 students, send out acceptances and wait for students to reject those spots...once rejected, they send out more int. invites to fill up the newly opened spots...

Essentially, what I am saying is: be highly selective, choose schools strategically (ie. dont' choose schools like Case which have handed out so many int) or, choose state schools (where you have a higher chance of getting in) and follow through on your application. 👍 good luck

i applied to nyu, buffalo, stony, columbia, umich, usc, umdnj, tufts, bu, harvard, maryland, unc, pitt, upenn, florida, u of illinois chicago, case, uconn, and temple. wat do you think?
