What are my chances???

If you are intending to apply to allopathic (MD) medical schools, you'll either need to raise your undergrad GPA, or get a very-good MCAT score. Additionally, most successful medical school applicants have more clinical experience and community service. Habitat for Humanity is a good start though. The shadowing is good to have, as is the research. You have leadership experience, have demonstrated teamwork, and have an excellent teaching/mentoring background.

ddogark, what is your state of residence? I ask because some states have public schools that are relatively forgiving of lower-than-average stats for IS residents.

I agree that you need to try to bump either your GPA or your MCAT -- the MCAT will probably be easier to improve in a short period of time. I don't think a 30 will cut it for US allopathic schools (in light of your GPA, which isn't terrible but is certainly low).

Are you considering osteopathic schools at all? It's great that you've shadowed a DO (you will need an LOR from a doc, and often a DO doc, to get into most osteopathic schools), and if you can pull a 30 on the MCAT (or even a little less) I think you will probably be in pretty good shape.

Good luck!

my state of residence is illinois, but im from alabama
