Hey, I'm a currently a junior with a 3.74 cumulative GPA and a 3.59 BCPM GPA. I'm a psychology BS major and have a 3.93 GPA in those classes. I have volunteered in the hospital for the past two years and have over 100 hours of such service. I just started working in a research lab and hope to be conducting my own research in the lab next year with the possibility of a publication. I studied abroad last summer and got a partial scholarship to do so. If I get an MCAT in the 34-36 range (which is where i think i'll end up), what are my chances in general, and specifically at UNC, Pitt, Vandy, and ECU?

If you get in the 34-36 range you will be very competitive in general and I think you will have decent shot at one of the schools you listed. But do not count on getting a certain MCAT score. Many people do this and then have their dreams crushed when they end up with a 29.

Oh I'm not banking on anything. However I did get a 1500 (out of 1600) on the SAT (which i know is completely different but i think indicates my test taking ability), and am taking a Kaplan Prep course.

Of students who applied over the last three years with your stats, 83.7 to 86% received an acceptance somewhere. Mean acceptee stats for the specified schools are as follows: UPitt and Vanderbilt 3.8 and 35, UNC 3.8 and 33, and ECU 3.5 and 29. If you only have a few months in a lab to mention when you apply, it might weaken your chances at the strongly research-oriented institutions. Your clinical experience sounds fine, but keep it up. A shadowing experience or two would be good to have. And what are you planning to list for leadership?

I've never heard of a BS in psychology?

Psychology generally has both science and arts degree programs. On the science side is cognitive and developmental psych. On the arts side is group psych etc.
