I have 3.7 GPA from a very good school (Engineering major) and lots of volunteering and shadowing experience. I am being todlmy letters are great (from our pre-professional office). I have been out of school working full time for 2.5 years now (Very good reason why i needed to before going back to postgraduate school) My hope is to get in to NYU or Columbia. What DAT score do you think I need to get in?

Thank you guys!! Thsi forum is amazing! Thank you for being so open and helpful!

if you mean my avg. GPA in those classes from college, that component is in the high 3.7s. Do you mean i need an avg. of 25 to get into a dental school? or NYU and Columbia? I live in NYC, so staying here would be easiest. Thanks for the help!

But most school avgs are 3.3GPA and 19-20 on DAT... I don't see howyou need a 27 to be competitive!??😕

all of my friends got accepted to NYU have 20 and above on their TS and AA. Also, PAT has at least 19.

For Columbia, I dont know yet... But, they have lots of positive experiences for those who go to NYU....

Great and solid GPAs...

they are pulling your leg.

You have a 3.7, the average for most schools is between 3.3 and 3.4 science. I don't know people are self-conscious about their grades when they're that high.

Thank you guys so much for all the response!! 😍

So, I took my first Top Score practice test on Sunday and here are the results:

PAT: 18 🙁
Bio: 17 🙁
Chem: 19 (was expecting better)
OChem: 16 😡
TS: 18
QR: 26!!! Bear in mind I did Engineering at Columbia for my undergrad so not doing well on this part would be embarrassing!
RC: didn't take it...

My exam is in 20 days and I work full time (LONG hours)-- have only a couple of hours at night but all weekend to study. My goal is TS:20-21 and PAT:20-21. Do you think that is doable? Any advice?

Thank you!!

ps: I took the ADA official test and here were the results:

PAT:19
Bio:21
Chem:23
OChem: 28!!
QR:23
RC:23

Clearly the tests are very diff. in level of difficulty.

So...you need to get to work on the sciences. You only have 20 days. I suggest you take time of your job (sick days or whatever). QR has nothing to do with Engineering which is MUCH different. Just study hard when you have time. Hopefully, you will see some improvement on your next Topscore which I recommend you take in about 7 days.

That's on the low end. I'd say you need at least a 27 to really be competitive.

I don't know man, only a 28 would guarantee she gets in...lol.

You should be fine with prolly an 18. Get a 19 and you have a great shot. 20+ and I'd say guaranteed. All you have to do is get above the averages for the DAT for the school you want to go to and you should be fine.

At first your GPA is not realistic for an engineering major. Average engineering GPA is 2.5 in UC schools (probably except UCR and UC Merced). If you are a good student, your GPA in engineering is close to 3.0. If you are very good, the range is between 3.3 and 3.4. Only exceptional students exceed 3.5 in engineering in UC system. Your GPA is 3.7, that means that you need to be very hard working and very brilliant student . However I do not believe that this is the case (according to your practice exam scores). Your score is kinda average or little bit high for DAT(for begineers). This means that you have a grade inflation in your school. Since there is a grade inflation ADCOMs suspect your validity of your GPA; if you have a score of 18-19s in DAT. Try to aim as high as possible,I think 20s(low) in AA,TS and PAT put you in a safe position. Good luck with your DAT preparation.

Thank you guys! I will be pushing through and hopefully it will pay off. Thank you to all of you again!

Dear UCFan-- I didn't go to a UC. So I don't know where you got that from. Avg. GPA in my school and my major was 2.7 in case you are curious.

you must mean 3.7 not 2.7 from your post above..? anyways, what matters more is your cumulative gpa as wel as your science not so much from your major gpa i believe, cuz my major gpa is like 3.9 but they told me i have low gpa compared to ave. stats since my cumulative gpa is much lower.. ( thanx to my undergrad requried courses..)
i'm in current cycle and had 22/22/22 on my frist DAT and 23/23/24 on my 2nd. i got interview invitation only by taking the first one from nyu so i say a big no to someone saying you need 27+. from nyu interview, among 10ppl i think my dat score was the 4th highest, which means ppl below 22 did get an invitation as well. now i'm waillisted for nyu but didnt even get an interview from columbia.
ppl are saying if you get somewhere above 23/24 then you are safe to get load of interviews but if you really want invitation from columbia then i say it's safe to get 25+. but, your personal statement has to be good and you have to have good LOR.. i had low gpa so i had 3 interviews total. hope this helped.

...At first I thought you were joking.
Then I realized you were an international student. It is MUCH tougher for international students to get in. They have to have much higher numbers that citizens.

yeh, i sort of forgot to mention that plus, i'm an international student sorry for that mistake! but, all 3 schools i've interviewed told me that gpa is what hurts my app most and one of the school i interviewed actually asked how many interviews so far, and when i told them they said that's reasoanable because of my low gpa altho i have high dat stats. so yeh, whoever that is, with that dat score, i'm sure will get i/v from #s of schools
