First MCAT 9V 11PS 9BS 29N (Aug 21st 2009)
Second MCAT 6V 10PS 12BS 28M (Sept 2nd 2009)
Science GPA 3.5
Biology Major

The 2 schools I am hoping to get interviews with have median acceptance MCATs of 29 with median GPA 3.7. My overall GPA is around 3.5 but I have a 3.9 science GPA post freshman year. My volunteer/extracurricular is weak and I the only experience I have is shadowing. I also applied late not finishing my secondaries until mid October. Any ideas on my chances of getting any interview/accepted? Is there any hope of overlooking my fluke verbal score since 2 weeks prior I made a more decent verbal score?

I think your chances are low this cycle. I am not sure whether or not USC or MUSC take the highest section, I would check that out! Take the time now to boost your ECs. Volunteer in the hospital, free clinic, etc to get patient contact and get in more shadowing. Do you have any tutoring, leadership, etc.? Applying late also will hurt badly.....

Even if your schools look at only the highest MCAT subsection scores, the lack of expected ECs kills your application. Read these forums widely to educate yourself on what you need to do, and start doing it.

Why not call your two schools and ask their policy in evaluating multiple MCAT scores? If they only consider the most recent, that verbal of 6 puts you out of the running. If they take the best subscore, you have an MCAT of 32. Your weak ECs will take you out of the running for this cycle, but you can better plan for next season once you have the information.

according to my counselor one of the two in-state schools I applied to whose median is 29 do take a composite best MCAT score. If I dont get in this year do I take the MCAT a third time?

Which school? I bet USC!!

In that case, you would have a 32. I think it would be the ECs that would keep you out then. You need to build those up starting now.....🙂

I had never heard it before but he told me LSU Shreveport takes composite. Sorry for ignorance but do you mean Southern Cal or South Carolina?

Stratego does best set of scores or best scores from that post mean composite scores?

I think he's referring to S Carolina.

I believe best set means best subscores put into a new composite.
