You need an MCAT score to really speculate, 30+ would obviously be great. Also you took the EK class, why wait until April to take the test?

Make sure you get a DO LOR, a lot of schools require them, some "recommend" them.

Assuming that you end up with a respectable MCAT score (>28), you should have a decent chance at DO, and possibly even some lower MD schools if you APPLY EARLY! Your Master's degree and your experience will help to make up for your undergraduate "academic indiscretions." It will not be an easy road, but you should be able to make it in somewhere.

Apply broadly. DO, MD...all of your in-state (both VA and PA....esp Jefferson Medical School, VCOM, and lots of the VA MD schools).

Your ECs are excellent. GPA showed vast improvement from undergrad to masters, though I do think it is still around the "average" (~3.5) for accepted applicants...but that means you are more than capable of being accepted: some have lower gpas, some higher, and most around the same. What will separate you and make you competitive is your list of ECs...they're fantastic.

APPLY EARLY...like ASAP when the apps are available. Start filling them out in April/May. Start on your personal statement...probably now-ish. Earlier the app, the less other applicants you will be compared to off the bat, thus probably differentiating you even more due to your unique, impressive ECs and masters program.

Good luck! 🙂

PS--absolutely get a LOR from the DO (if you're going to apply DO) and try your best to get another from one MD--preferably the ped MD since you spent so much time with him/her...and ask these physicians ASAP. Sometimes they take OBNOXIOUSLY long...I mean really...we're talking like 7-8 months...or never. I had one DO anesth who I shadowed say she'd write me a LOR...gave her all the stamped, addressed envelopes (11!!!)...everything she needed, resume, personal statement, etc...she totally blew me off, never called me back, never wrote me a letter. Those damn doctors!

My undergraduate stat's are slightly low
3.1 cgpa
2.93 sgpa

20 hours of hands on volunteering for Thomas Jefferson University Medical School's Jeff Hope program.

I am a VA resident, going to grad school in PA.

Really good LOR's from my Masters program, and mediocre LOR's from my undergraduate biology, chemistry and statistics professor.

What should I do, should I apply to DO schools? If so which ones?
I plan on apply for next years cycle (2011). Please help!!

I would apply to PCOM, PCOM-GA, LECOM, LECOM-B, LMU-DCOM, TU-COM NY, TU-COM NV, VCOM, WCU-COM, WVSOM. With a 30+ MCAT you may gain admissions I would call ahead to these schools and see if there is a 3.0 sGPA cutoff, for most it's 2.5, however nothing is guaranteed. I would also apply to Big 4 Caribbean Schools and also contemplate podiatry.
