I've been searching everywhere for a "what are my chances" thread but I wasn't able to find one, and I know the question gets annoying for most but here I go anyway...

I'm interested in starting St. Georges in August 2010. I know it's a rolling admissions process so I will get my application in a-sap, but I hear of many people who get deferred to the January term because it can be so competitive. I ask this because if I'm not accepted until January, I'll probably end up starting a Masters program in August in the US and reapplying to American DO schools. I already took a year out though and so I'd be more happy to start St. Georges in August (the only carib med school I'm considering).

Now, I want to do the Global Scholars Program because I was born and raised in England before moving to the US, so I have lots of family and friends in the UK.

Here are my stats: MCAT 24R, Cum GPA: 3.48, Sci GPA: 3.30, Major: Microbiology and Molecular Biology, took a year out doing research, have lots of shadowing/volunteering/leadership experience, great LORs.

Also, is the GSP just as competitive?

Thanks everyone for your time. Hope the day is going well.

Jeez, you're GPA is phenomenal, why can't you just retake the MCAT, get a 33+ and apply to a US medical school?

second that... that gpa coupled with a few points higher on the MCAT should get you in stateside... you should start studying for the MCAT

I recommend a trip to the caribean to check out all the big4.
I personally don't think SGU is a good value.

Thanks for your help.

I'm currently going through such a stressful time. I graduated in August 2009 and I took the year out to do some research and apply to medical schools. Well, once I finally ended up taking my MCAT (January), it was fairly late for most US schools (don't accept January MCAT), so now I'm forced to take out another year. I guess it sucks because all my friends are already in medical school and here I am, trailing along. Granted, I'm only 22 years old.

Now, I could start carib because I feel my stats are decent and I regularly chat to the admissions counselor at St. Georges. I know I can be a doctor this way, but the thought of spending two years of an island, two years in new york and possibly residency in new york (since that's where most spots are) leave me eh...I'm a small town girl 🙂 Now, of course, I can make the sacrifice because that does have a touch of excitement too and I really want to be a doctor, and St. Georges/Ross/AUC have reliable programs.

Now, I'm also considering doing a Masters of Medical Sciences with a concentration in Health Sciences next year and re-applying to MD/DO school in July. The cost will be about $20,000 for the entire year with tuition, fees and living, since it's close to home. I'm just scared that I'll do the program, not get into school and end up going to St. Georges anyway. I think I need to work on my self confidence.

Good day to all!
