your DAT is a bit low :| but GPA is average so...

I'll be honest with you. You applied pretty late in the cycle, and your DAT scores are a bit on the low side. Taking into consideration how comparatively difficult it is for Canadians to secure admission in US schools, I'd say rock the canadian DAT (aim for at least 21+) and apply super early next cycle. Best of luck.

why are you taking cDAT when you are applying to american schools? you know the schools prefer aDAT right?

So that's saying, you are already at a huge disadvantage by applying late, then you decide to further handicap your application by taking cDAT? not very logical... (take aDAT, it's easier too and you don't have to wait til november)

Hi there, just a question about your GPA.

So you said you had 3.56 for a CAN university, which is approximately a 75-79% overall average.

Now I realize that the CAN dental schools, say in Ontario, both need about a 3.9, which is 85-89% university overall average. I am confused on how these averages translate for the USA GPA. I do not have the 85%+ needed for the Ontario universities, but i was under the impression that US dental schools averaged a lower GPA for their incoming class, as they have many more spots and schools. After a bit of research in the last few days, i have only found information to state that the US dental schools actually need higher marks. For example, I have seen about 3.55 usGPA as the average from some dental schools, then when i looked up the US GPA system, I found a 3.5 in the US is a higher university average than a 3.9 in Canada! (90%+) - which was very discouraging for me to see.

Finally, talking to a friends sister (Canadian) who got 3 interviews so far for US dental schools says an 80-82% CAN science university overall average should give you a really good chance to get into the 10 or so US schools that accept Canadians, but from what I've seen, I am not so sure.🙁

Does any one know how CAN and US university percentage averages are comparable? Would you really need a 90% university average in the US to get into a dental school? assuming a 90% is equal for US and CAN universities?

Sorry for the big post - got carried away, but really any help or insight on this matter of GPAs and university averages would be very helpful!

thanks to those that responded.

Oberstein: what if i do well on my november DAT? like 22? Will i have a chance to get interviews in Jan or Feb 2011?

wantVCUdental: i'm doing cDAT because i'm also applying to Canadian dental schools. i know it's not a good idea to do it but i dont really have a choice due to several reasons. 🙁

In2Infinity: my cGPA and science GPA were calculated by AADSAS (it's actually slightly higher than my original cGPA) so i'm assuming it's comparable...not sure though

Not very likely. It'll take a month after you take the exam for CDA to start sending out score reports. I just think that it'll be really late in the game by that point.

...but it doesn't hurt to try. 🙂 you may never know. good luck!

i see...i'll just pray for a miracle then 😛

thanks for your help! 🙂

Don't apply to Howard unless you are minority

just my 2 cents 😉
