I recently graduated with a B.S. in Biology. I have a 3.25 cumulative GPA and a 3.1 science GPA. I had a rough start my freshman year, but earned As and Bs through out the rest of my classes. I also took a lot of upper level classes my senior year such as Biochem, Genetics, Micro, etc. My MCAT is not that great, I got a 20Q (7-8-5). I know my Bio section is what hurts my application. I worked at the Coroner's Office during undergrad as an Autopsy Technician. I volunteer as a personal tutor, as a disaster relief member for the American Red Cross, and in the ER department of a hospital. I was an officer in the Pre-medical society, Member of the Biology club, and an Undergraduate Teaching Assistant in the Anatomy lab. I have also shadowed a Podiatrist. I have LORs from a Podiatrist, a DO, 2 PhD's, and 2 M.S. professors. Do I stand a shot?

Mine were:
BCPM GPA: 3.22
Total GPA: 3.34
Molecular Biology Major
Biochemistry Major
26 MCAT

Got denied from everything 🙁, including Rosalind Franklin (IL) which is one of the least competitive schools.

I went for my masters, and studied for MCATs using ExamKrackers (before I used Kaplan, which clearly did not work for me)

Oh, but I also had no shadowing, very little time in hospital, and all my references were PhDs, no MDs

Petitprincesse, which schools did you apply to?

When applying to pod schools, you are required to have a letter from a podiatrist that says you shadowed them and stuff. So that is probably why you did not get accepted, as that is one of the main requirements for admissions.....

👍

Also, I thought Scholl was thought of as one of the more competitive schools?

darkandtwisty, You will probably get in somewhere.

petitprincesse, You will also probably get in somewhere. Make sure to do some shadowing.

Everyone else, petitprincesse was talking about Chicago Medical School. It's the MD program at Rosalind Franklin University.

My bad. I assumed she was talking about their podiatry school since this is the podiatry forum lol

Thank you! I'm crossing my fingers that I'll get in this cycle! I just submitted my application on Monday. Do you know how long it takes on average after you apply that you hear back from schools? Thanks!

I figured I would update my "What are my chances" post. I ended up getting accepted to a few schools and ultimately picked Scholl. I'll be starting next month 🙂 If anyone has any questions about the application process feel free to PM me. And good luck to those applying for the class of 2016 this year!

Congrats!

Did you get in with the same stats you listed in your original post or did you improve on anything?

Thanks! Same stats. I think applying early is the key as well.

Did you use the recommendation letter from the osteopathic doctor? I have one too and I'm considering submitting it. So far I have two letters from science professors and one letter from a pod. Is that good enough or should I toss in the DO letter as well?

It's all up to you. I figured the DO letter wouldn't hurt, as it was from a DO that I worked under as an autopsy tech. I had 2 PhD prof letters, 2 MS professors, a DO, and a DPM. It may have been a lot of letters, but it worked for me!
