I think your stats are pretty solid in my opinion! Make sure to score around your practice MCAT scores and you are sure to get in somewhere! Goodluck!

I graduated in May 2009, my overall gpa is 3.4 and science not sure but around 3.0-3.2 range (I had to take orgo 1 again but got an A the second time after getting a D) however I have a 3.7 in my last 60 credits hours. I am also a certified medical assistant with 220 hours of externship (havnt been able to find a job as one though), however I have an 19R on my MCAT and REALLY dont fee l like taking it again bc it was back in 2009, tons of volunteer work..any comments on my chances for any of the schools??

I say go for it. My advice to everyone who decides to apply is to apply early. You will have the BEST chances of getting into where your heart desires if you do that. I wish you the best. I definitely think your stats are up to par. This is just my opinion.👍

Thanks for the thumbs up, made me feel alot better, yes I am going to apply very early, However, I have been working for free my father the last two years since 09 because his shop fell on hard times due to the recession and had to lay off his only employee, its non healthcare related and i was simply a store clerk and I was not able to find work or volunteer hours due to my obligation. Of course my father felt horrible, he is a humble man and I couldnt see him open and closing his store from 6am - 11pm 7 days a week, as a good son would, i put my career on hold. I know adcoms can be very unforgiving but i may be wrong, does anybody think this will work against me, and if it does, what can I do? If not, I would have applied to podiatry school after taking the mcat back in 09.

Anybody?...I would really appreciate some insight?

you will be fine at almost every school, but if you want to be sure about getting into every school you would want at least a 21, and if you are interested in the larger scholarships, you would want to get at least a 25.

If you just say you were working for your father at a store for the last few years trying to figure out what you wanted to do with your life, getting a sense of direction, or just telling them the truth that you were helping out your family, I don't think they'd mind/bat an eyelash.

I have a friend who, after undergrad, sat around and literally did nothing for a year. She traveled (a little), watched a lot of tv, and just sorta hung out. After that year she took the DAT, applied to dental school, and now she's a student at Columbia Dental in NYC. At least what you're doing is noble.
