Sorry, I know you see a lot of these but...

ogpa:3.4
sgpa:3.2
DAT: TS 19 AA 19 PAT 24 RC 22 QR 16 🙁

lots of dental shadowing and ecs.

I'm re-taking the DAT in a week. I sent in my app June 1st and everything is in so a mailing date of 6/27.

IMO you are 25/75 right now. You have a chance, but more than likely you will be re-applying. Depending on the schools you applied to, your DAT and your GPA are both below average. The 22 in RC is really nice, the PAT isn't overly important.

I believe usually the people with below average GPAs that get in have above average DAT scores and the people with low DAT scores have way above average GPAs. If you are average or below on both accounts, I think it may be a long shot.

Sorry this wasn't the most positive post ever, just taking my best realistic guess.

what would u say is an above average DAT score? i have below average GPA too...

I'm kind of in your same boat. (low GPA, Avg DAT)

BCP 3.2 cGPA 3.3 with an upward trend
DAT: 21 AA/ 20TS/ 21 PAT/ 19 QR/ 24 RC/ 19BIO/ 20GC/ 23OC

with tons and Tons and TONS of EC/ leadership/ volunteer/ shadow experience

Great LORs

applying to 21 school and will be mailed out on the 27th.

Keeping my fingers crossed :xf: :xf:

I'm applying to 20 schools. Hopefully I get in somewhere! I'm hoping to nail the DAT this time. I only thought my QR score was below avg? But my scores aren't above avg either and my GPA is on the low side. I'm going to take some upper level bio classes this fall. My sgpa is like a 3.29 so it should be at least a 3.3 maybe in time for some post dec interviews? I have 3000+ hours of ECs. Does that make a difference? Maybe? A little?

Your EC's for sure will make a difference, but the raw #'s are more important. You have a lot of EC's (apply for ASDOH!), now only focus on the DAT and post-bacc classes if you take them. Your s-GPA is OK, no doubt, it just isn't good enough to stand out. You did very well on some sections of the DAT, but others not so much. By average, I meant of accepted applicants not all DAT takers.

Good luck to you, if you don't get in this year I think you will next year with some application improvement.

Dude, take the guesswork out by contacting a few Admissions Offices and talking to them about your situation. Make sure it's a few different schools as some of these places just want your application fee and will tell you to apply.

Try to connect with someone who will be honest with you.

Asking people on this subforum is like the blind leading the blind.

It's silly to call up admissions to say "what are my chances" when you already submitted. More likely to annoy someone than to actually get helpful info that will make a difference. Just be patient and focus on making yourself a strong applicant that will do well in interviews.

sgpa:3.2
DAT: TS 19 AA 19

Sorry to be frank, but these scores won't cut it. I had a 3.1 sgpa and a 23AA 24TS and I only had 2 interviews. You need to knock out at least 20s on all sections this next time.

Just remember too, it's not ALL about numbers. You have to have MEANINGFUL ECs (community service, teaching, or shadowing), good letters, present your story for why you want to be a dentist well in the PS. If you have mediocre stats, you gotta excel in the other departments

Did you end up getting in Houston DAT - with that 3.1/23/24?

oh man... im curious too
i have 3.3 for both gpa and 21/21/25 with 20s on all sections
applying to 16 schools... and u got me worried now
did u have a state school?

is the sgpa considered to be just chem12 physics12 bio12 and orgo12?
say im a bio major, and i have more upper level bios, is my sgpa still just those listed above?

When did you apply? I thought applying early may get me an interview at the big public schools.

I have 500+ hours working/shadowing in dental offices, 200+ community service, I taught for a non profit organization for 300+ hours (my position was grant funded by UF(my state school)), I have a lot of club stuff, Chemistry frat, and I was an RA for two years plus I had multiple jobs and an internship. But if I don't make the number cut, no one will ever see that.

Yeah, numbers are everything. Extra curriculars only help you in the interview. I had more than quadruple your dental experience, triple your community service, and several prestigious awards. I went to a top 10 school. Submitted June 15th. 16 schools, 0 interviews last cycle. Awful experience last year - hopefully yours is better than the one I had.

Don't listen to people who say numbers aren't everything...b/c yes, they kind of are. The EC's essentially help you once you get those numbers.

What were your stats? (if you don't mind me asking) WHat did you do to improve for this cycle?

You seem to have pretty good stats (in opposition to what others think) , keep ur head up apply to more that ten schools and rock the interviews if granted one.

I foolishly applied mid July. As a re-applicant, I knew better. I'm thankful the stupid move didn't cost me.

I am going to go with what 104 said and disagree with all the sensationalized stories of people applying to 20 schools and not getting in. Chances are they had lower than a 19 AA and 3.3 gpa.

You will be fine. Apply 15+ schools.

Thanks! I appreciate all the feed back. Like I said I applied June 1st to 20 schools. Nothing I can do now but wait. Or is there anything I can do while I wait? I'm going to take an upper level bio class or two. (I was a bio major so there are not many more I can take) Any other suggestions? I'm going to re-take the DAT on July 5th. I've been doing pretty well on the practice so hopefully I'll get 20+ I'm just afraid I'll panic and score lower in a section.
