3.89 cGPA 3.86 sGPA. Honors college.

Boatload of volunteering, including 60 hours job shadowing a teaching osteopathic doc (he taught 3rd year grad students and residents in the hospital).

My mcat is a little weak though..I got a 24Q (9 VR, 9 BS, 6 PS)

I'm a Michigan resident and I really want to get into MSUCOM. (My fiance is in the nursing program at the University of Michigan so I don't want to go out of state)

So...what do you guys think?

First off, I think you can retake that mcat. But if you do not want to, I think you have enough experience to get into your first choice as MSU. You might also consider LECOM as well. You mcat is good enough to for both of those schools. Moreover, I do not really know your full list of activities, so I can't really say......

Here is my official list

Microbiology Club - 1 year, 20 hours.
InterVarsity Christian Fellowship - 3 years about 600 hours
Awana Club (supervising 3-5th graders in after school program) 2 years - 140 hours
Podiatry Job shadowing in hospital - 6 months 65 hours
Spent a week living in a church in Detroit conducting various housing projects as well as working in a discount salvation army-esque warehouse.
I played IM basketball for 2 years.
I worked as a volunteer intern for an optometrist for 112 hours over 3 months. I was allowed to work with patients a lot (conducting primary tests; visual field, auto refraction, as well as teaching a first time contact lens user class)
I was part of the evangelism team through intervaristy for a year and a total of 80 hours
I worked with underprivileged youth on an Indian reservation through my church for a total of 140 hours.

Those are the heavy hitters I guess.

And I don't know if this is a factor, but the fact of the matter is my father past away suddenly as I was about to start my freshman year of college and it prompted my mom to become bipolar as well as a compulsive gambler..it caused a lot of hardship.

I'm retaking the mcat July 29th.

Wow. There is not doubt in my mind that you will have a solid application. You have good clinical experience and some meaningful leadership....That's very good. You GPA is very good as well. My advice to you would be to visit the mcat forum and see a few tips and tricks. You have about 3 weeks to study. How long did you study last time...?

1 week. I was pre-optometry for my entire undergrad career and seeing how my dad's death effected my mom prompted me to switch career paths. I switched in January so I only had 6 months to get my clinical experience up to par and prepare for the mcat. But I was taking orgo II and physics II that semester so it didn't leave me much time to study. :-X

Well. I would start studying for that. Visit the mcat forum. I'm sure you will do fine, but try to aim for 30 and above and spread your srtudy time among the sections so you can achieve a balanced score!!
