Okay, so I am feeling prettttty prettttty depressed right now. I know I would do well in dental school, but I am beginning to lose hope on getting in this cycle.

I took the DAT yesterday, and I completely screwed up on the math section 13 QR. I also made a 16 PAT.
But...
BIO: 19
GC: 21
OC: 18
RC: 19

Cumulative GPA is 3.5
non-science GPA is 3.85
Science GPA is 3.07
BCP GPA is 3.11

I am a history major and philosophy minor. The past year I have a strong upward trend in GPA. Over the past year I have taken courses in A&P 1, A&P 2, Microbiology, Biochemistry 1, Nutrition, and Advanced Physiology. I made A's in them all except I made a B in Microbiology.

I have good LOR's. I have TONS and TONS of volunteering with Special Olympics, a soup kitchen, and "After-School Kids Club," and I have also volunteered at a couple of missions. I also was a volunteer English and Science tutor. I have 100 hours shadowing experience.
And I am pretty certain my personal statement is unique and very good.
I am 23 and a Texas resident.

I realize I screwed up on the QR and PAT section, but is there any hope for me to get any interviews, if so, which schools do you think would at least give me an interview?
AND/OR...If you think I might have a shot, which schools do you think I should definitely call Monday and tell them about my situation?

High science DAT scores... but very very low QR as you note. I'm not sure, but I recall reading somewhere that schools have a cutoff of 16 or 17 on all sections, which would make your QR an issue. Also, your science GPA is pretty low. You may be better of retaking the DAT and doing a postbacc to increase your GPA.

Put simply, your app has too many red flags

13 QR
16 PAT
3.07 sci GPA
3.11 BCP GPA

Even though schools consider the QR section the least out of all the DAT areas of focus a 13 is pretty darn low. You only got 11-12 questions right out of 40 questions! Not to be mean but just by guessing one could have gotten that score by playing the odds. If it was just that score I would say you were a far long shot...however, with a low PAT I think any leniency a school might have given for the QR is out the window.

Your sGPA/BCP is on the low side as well...all these factors point to a tough go this application cycle. I think you will be lucky to get an interview. But all is not lost!! You have the science scores down and the PAT/QR are easy sections to pull up. Use Math Destroyer and Crack DAT PAT and you will see major improvement. I would expect to apply again next year...get all A's in your upcoming classes (assuming you have one year remaining) to get your GPA up and retake next spring or summer. Continue your EC's and you should be in a lot better shape to get into dental school somewhere.

It looks like you need to change that nickname on sdn first, champ.

Aw it sucks when that happens. As a fellow history major and someone whose non-science gpa is significantly higher than the science gpa, I complete understand how you feel. Don't lose hope! It's probably not a good idea to have too high hopes for this cycle considering that a lot of schools value PAT scores, but just work harder for next cycle!

I would consider a retake.... you have too many things working against you (Low science GPA, not stellar TS, and very low individual DAT scores).

I would also consider some post-bacc sciences starting... now (fall) and spring term ~ this is a backup plan incase you don't get in anywhere..... I believe the biggest issue you have so far is the sGPA, so post-bacc with upper level sciences (and ofc 4.0-ing every course) should improve your app.

all the best

For sure, I'll only be taking one science course this fall (Physics 1) but next spring I will take Physics 2, and histology. This should bring my sciGPA up to a 3.2 since I haven't taken very many science courses. Thank you everyone for the advice.

 I like how nearly everyone on here assumes that he/she will do well on future science classes.

Ha, not assuming anything. Just telling him he has to get his sGPA up if he wants a real shot.

When dental works tells you to retake.

You retake ****.

Are you dyslexic?

He clearly assumes he can bring his sGPA to a 3.2, which is still low. So I wasn't referring to your post.

thats a valid assumption for all pre-healthcare.... if you can't handle science courses, you don't belong in this pre-whatever society... and I am certain everyone understands this.

The one (and most occuring) thing I've noticed is lack of motivation / commitment to science courses... once the individual understands his/her short comings and most importantly, begins to appreciate their value, they'll be able to handle almost any undergrad type science class.

I'm re-reading his post and I have no idea what makes you think he's dyslexic...

DentistDMD just likes discouraging/making fun of everyone. Just ignore 🙂

You have a low opinion of me just because I said you won't get the highest score on DAT in the nation, which is a valid claim. 🙂

I never said I would either. I don't think it's appropriate to call others "dyslexic" on this forum, seemings I have a close friend who is and it's nothing to be made fun of.

We are here to motivate/support/answer questions. Not name calling people on a forum who could potentially be future classmates.

and you think saying "******ed" can be rationalized by any means?

So dentalworks, can you ace in Thermodynamics, Physical Chemistry I, and Topology all in the same semester if you're a pre-health?

Moreover, do you really think the person with low science GPA can do well in the future science classes?

Saying my cellphone is ******ed is a bit different from calling people dyslexic.
oh? Assume mentally ******ed patient is in your office, given that you went through dental school and whatnot, you yell "my cell phone is so ******ed!" right next to the patient. According to you, it's justifiable to say such a thing, right? 😱

Yep. Sure is.

Lol, you have no room to call people out on being dyslexic when your posts sound like you've just stepped off the immigrant boat.

All of a sudden, I became a dyslexic immigrant. 👍

I want to see DentistDMD with strikethrough and "Banned" underneath 😀
You know what? I actually agree with you on that.

where is the love?

will a dyslexic immigrant get some love too?

I use my "game" on females, not on males, unlike you. Also, thank you as well for confirming your head being a mere ornament. 👍

Lol sure. How's that working for you?

better than someone who's been a 2+ member on SDN and has near 800 posts....

Lol, 0 of which have been used to try to flaunt any game. You, however, have an entire thread dedicated to your SDN dating profile.

 I can only dream of having myriads of girlfriends like you.....🙄

Edit: your join date is in 2008, but you are still a pre-dent....did you perhaps get rejected by every Dschool recently?

Ouch. Round 1 goes to Amalgamgrillz.
I see that you're an international trying to get into US dental school. I don't think Amalgamgrillz likes immigrants like you, just saying.

I'm completely fine with immigrants. Just accept it: your English sucked, yet you incorrectly called someone's post out as being dyslexic.

Lol, I have no shame in my join date or my applications to dental school. But, I would be completely embarrassed if I had to resort to SDN to connect with women. To each his own.

wait so you really DID get rejected by every dental school?

Do you really think I was being serious? hahaha And my English? I don't even know what to say on this. Well I guess I have to be an English major to be a dentist. 🙄
