- I have a 3.3 overall GPA, 3.0 Science and BCP GPA
- I have yet to take DAT
- Very limited shadowing and volunteer works (I'm working on these aspects this year)

What concerns me the most is that I have a downward trend and most of the dental schools specifically indicate that they like students with upward trend. I started with a 4.0 GPA during my freshman year in college down to a 3.8 during my sophomore year and then a drastic downfall of 3.3 right now. I have mostly A's, a few B's, 1 C, 2 D's, and 1 W. My university GPA also looks bad at 2.7 because the credits that I took from different schools, where I got mostly A's and very few B's are not calculated towards my UGPA.

man... if I had a quarter for every time I saw one of these threads... If only.

Look, without your DAT, shadowing experience, and half of your GPA, its impossible to tell. Sorry. 👍

Your dental apps would be paid for 😀

How did you have a 4.0 freshman year, 3.8 sophomore year, and now you have a 3.3? I see you made 2 D's, is that what pulled it down so bad?...

how many more semesters do you have until you graduate? Really the only solution here is to study harder, pull your grades up, and do well on the DAT. If you are very close to graduation then consider doing a masters degree or taking more advanced science courses after you graduate so that you can pull your gpa's up. Be proactive and go find a dentist to shadow too. Lastly, decide when you want to take the DAT and study hard for it. The threads on this website about study for the DAT contain more than enough information to help you prepare for and do well on the test.

the end.

I am 4 semesters away from graduation. I've already started shadowing and as of today, I have about 12 hours of dental shadowing and about 26 hours of volunteer works.

I'm taking 3 science courses with labs this sem + 1 non-science. With about 30% of the semester done, I have a low A in Molecular Genetics, a mid-B in Microbiology, a high C in Histology, and a solid A in the non-science course (World Lit).

I've also started studying for DAT. My pre-dental advisor wants me to take it on January but I don't feel like I'll be prepared by then.

Yeah, the 2 D's really pulled it down. I've retaken one of the courses where I got D and got a B+ and have yet to retake the other one next semester.

In my university, the second grade replaces the first grade if you retake a course. But I do not calculate it that way because I am aware that AADSAS will count both attempts.

Don't take the DAT because your advisor wants you to. Take it when you are confident that you can get a good score on it. Scoring high on the Dat can make up for a lower gpa and increase your chances of acceptance. If your gpa is below 3.5 then I think you really need a 20AA or better in order to be competitive. A 19AA is good but a 20 or higher would stand out more. Either way, I highly recommend working through the DAT Destroyer at least twice and making sure you understand pretty much all of the questions in the book well. Once you feel comfortable with the questions in Destroyer try taking a few Topscore tests to really see where you stand. But the more resources you use the better and the more you study the better. Good luck!
