Hi everyone, I'm new to this forum and would like your opinion on a few things.

3.18 GPA
3.31 Science

DAT
AA 20
PA 21
QR 17
RC 23
BS 17
OC 21
GC 21
TS 19

This was the first and only time I will take the DAT(Oct 20th). I'm pretty happy with my scores, although I wasn't watching my time on the QS left 4 unanswered. I'm hoping the bio doesn't hurt me. My GPA's are not impressive, but my first year I had a 1.7 GPA. The past 2 years my GPA has been 3.7 or higher every semester taking Physiology I & II, Microbio, Biochem, Calc., Physics, as well as advanced metabolism courses for my major... I got a D in Orgo I, so I retook it and got an A and a B in Orgo II. Some schools say they look for trends of improvement, maybe that helps me. I have been a chair side assistant for about a year and a half and my dad own a dental lab. Do you think the consider things like that?
My application is going in this weekend...maybe a little late, but I think I'll be OK. Right now I'm just applying to Michigan, Univ. of Detroit, and Marquette. UofM and UofD have DAT averages of about 19/19 and Marquette is a little under 18 for both. Does anyone have any experience with these school, particularly the two Michigan schools? Do you think I sould apply to a couple more? Was thinking about maybe Case Western. Any advice or comments are welcome.

Thanks

mlonier,

I have very similar stats to yours all around. I applied very early and have received 5 interviews thus far, so I think you have good chances, however, I would highly encourage you to apply to more schools. Marquette will be nearly impossible for you to get into. They don't take much merit in the DAT and go strcitly by GPA, this is why their DAT average is so low. Additionally, they already have nearly 1500 out of state applicants for their 40 out of state spots. As for the Michigan schools I think you have a good chance if you are in state. Don't apply to Case, because right now even if you get an interview, you can only make the waiting list. Try applying to some more private schools and do it ASAP. Some other members should be able to help you choose which schools to apply to. Good luck, PM me if you have any more questions.

Thanks for the info benj...anyone else?...what other private schools should I look into?

UOP and Loma Linda are both private, if you're looking on the east coast. If you aren't religious, you might want to steer away from Loma Linda though.

I think you have a very respectable resume. you are close to a 3.2 on your GPA and you made a 20 on the DAT. Boston U and Howard should be amongst your top choices.

I would add NYU, BU, Nova. I wouldnt add Case. They interview very early in the process and I have heard that any upcoming interviews would be only for their waitlist.

you definitely have a good chance I think..look at my stats, and i already have some interviews! I say don't be discouraged...just gotta wait and see though...

one more thing..i agree with dentaldream (add NYU, BU, and Nova)

where'd you get this idea from? I highly doubt that case has filled it's class already especially since they can't possibly know who's coming and who's not out of their acceptance pile...

I got that idea from the chair of admissions whom I interviewed with at Case. He told me straight out that sometime in mid-October they start interviewing for only alternate spots. This has been confimred by a few others on this board in different threads.

i think your stats are fine 😎 gj

i think that youll be in great shape. yes it is true that they look for positive trends. I got a 2.7 my first semester and have maintained a 3.9 since and at my interview the interviewer just looked at my transcript and said "boy you must have had a good amount of fun first semester." And then he went to say that in his eyes the first semester of college for me really didnt exist and i would not be penalized for it. Based on your solid DAT and nice GPA after one bad semester i think you have a sure fire shot to get in somewhere even though your application is a little late.

That Case business is not true. Last year I interviewed Dec. 2 and got an acceptance Dec. 7.

Just stating what I was told....maybe their admissions policies change from year to year. Just want people to be informed before they spend money traveling.
