UCLA Political Science graduated with a 2.7, but 3.1 overall including community college grades.

USF Biochemistry graduated with a 3.6

A.S. degree in Spanish and a Spanish proficiency certificate

Have completed a fire academy and a police academy (good extracurricular's and will show I am capable of the physical stress of medical school). I plan to reserve as a police officer 10 hours a month after Med school.

MCAT: Haven't taken it yet

Overall cGPA: 3.3

Research and lots of volunteer experience in a hospital

Worked as an EMT

I'm kind of an interesting case, a few low grades and a lot of good ones. I have a lot of experience in other fields too.

Overall, if you're a Californian, you're not competetive for MD schools, but are fine so far for pretty much any DO school (including mine). What is your overall sGPA?

Thanks for the honest feedback. I actually have a more in depth question... Lets say you went through a rough time in your life and received a few poor grades (not more than say, 3 or 4). Time went on and the majority of your grades were A's with a few B's in science courses specifically. Am I automatically DQ'd from MD schools because a few bad grades in the past?

My overall science is a 3.7

no you are not automatically dqed. But it makes it more important for you to do well on your MCAT

Thanks for the positive advice. I plan to study rigorously for the MCAT. Also, would you recommend moving to TX for a year, getting another job in a health related field, and then apply after that (because I am aware of TX's strigent rules for state residency). Basically, will moving to TX help my chances at all? I am not married, I don't have kids, and I have plenty of friends that live there, so it wouldn't be a burden for me. Let me know, thank you!

If you want to move to Texas, go ahead. But realize that moving to get in-state status is a gamble, and if you end up not getting in, you may end up just moving back. Take the MCAT first so that you actually know what your chances are.
