I am new to the forum and thank you in advance for any and all your feedback! I am applying to a variety of MD programs this summer and just wanted an idea of my chances. I had a 3.0 with a bachelors in molecular biology. I received a 34 on the MCAT.

I am currently getting my Masters in Biomedical Science in immunology and microbiology. I recently completed the year long med student sequence on infection and immunity where I finished with a 3.1 and 3.4. It is a second year medical student class. I have completed multiple volunteer experiences in both medical fields and the sciences.

Lastly, I know that it doesn't help much but I am definitely a URM applicant. I also received my Associate of Arts in the last two years of my four years of active service in the US Marine Corps. (I received an honorable discharge and reached corporal.) I just wanted to get an idea of my chances and really cannot thank you enough for your experience and feedback.

Thank you for your service in the USMC corporal. As it stands you have a chance at MD schools. Life experiences and diversity are two things medical schools search for and your career in the military with the URM factor will play a major role. I'm assumung your science GPA is above a 3.0 too correct? If so Stats wise you should be fine as long as you have an upward trend and the rest of your application is strong. You need strong LORs from your professors, prehealth committee, a physician (not needed but recommended) and your direct in command for your platoon/unit/company. However, most importantly you need to have strong ECs with a very well thought personal statement. As a former Marine you are a non-traditional and in any career change you have to show the right reason, committment and hard work. On average applicants have 1.5 years of clinical experience (shadowing and volunteering at a clinic or hospital) but I will ask you to strive for more. Look into non-clinical volunteering too. My MDapplicants profile discusses all of this in great detail please read it as it will be helpful:-
