Hi

I started filling out the application on AACOMAS and currently my cGPA is 3.25, sgpa is 3.36 and MCAT is 24O (9 BS/ 10 PS/ 5 V). I am also enrolled to re-take some of my courses with Cs. Please let me know what my chances are.

Thanks!

Zero with a 5 in verbal. You need to retake the mcat

do you have any ECs? The 5 in verbal might be a killer, but I have seen others have success. Assuming your ECs are good, you MIGHT get lucky but I would say your chances are slim. Not none. Just not high enough to be really confident about it. If your ECs are effing amazing, you may have more luck.

Yeah I have volunteered at the hospital in different departments, shadowed a nurse, was part of some clubs at my school, have a recommendation letter for three different science profs, volunteered for the diabetes association and have a letter from a physician.

Would you recommend re-taking the MCAT perhaps in september? I am currently enrolled in summer courses so I don't have time to study for the MCAT...

you can, but be aware that unless you do fantastic on the mcat (30+) you are likely not going to have much success this cycle. That is really late.

Those ECs are no where close to "effing amazing". They are below average for MD acceptances. Your ECs aren't that hot at all. Have you shadowed any doctors (not nurses)?

I am only applying to DO schools though .................... and yes i have shadowed a physician, hence the recommendation letter from one.

Even for DO schools a 5 will be automatically selected out at nearly every school. This isn't the Caribbean you're talking about. US DO schools are highly competitive with average subscores over 8 being the norm.

i will be honest. i said you had a slim chance because I saw 1 person from this cycle get in with a 21 mcat. he had a 5 in BS. So I figure if he can, you can. However this is completely anecdotal and I think he sat on a waitlist for 6 months. But the reality is that you aren't competitive. If you get in, it is because you got lucky as hell. and we are all talking about DO schools. your mediocre ECs, weak mcat, 5 subscore, and weak gpa leaves you as a very weak applicant. You aren't a "this guy is embarrassing himself" applicant, but understand that you are weak.

and retaking the mcat in september and getting a 26 or so still leaves you as a weak applicant be just applying in october and not being complete until november. possible, but the odds are against you.

Not true. Most DO schools look at the whole score. Check the UD thread

Not too bad, but that 5V is going to hurt somewhere. Our Dean is very keen on high MCAT scores, so he'd likley veto you even if the AdCom likes you. If you're not ESL, then it will hurt even more.

So, STRONGLY suggest you retake MCAT and aim to get that V increaded by 2 points, minimum.
