Hello,

Thanks for taking the time to let me know what you think!

-cGPA 3.68, sGPA 3.38
-MCAT 28Q (physical: 8 :/ biological: 9, verbal: 11)
-I work full time as a research assistant at the Detroit Medical Center in the Sports Medicine Department and I deal w/ patients a lot.
-In my free time I volunteer in hospice, serving as a companion for a few hours a week for the last year or so. Approx. 100 hours
-I shadowed an MD cardiologist for approx. 50 hours
-I presented an IRB-approved cognitive psych. exp. that I designed and conducted to the Michigan Academy of Sciences
-I achieved the honor of Most Outstanding Senior in Psychology at my undergraduate university.

I know my MCAT ain't strong, and I haven't volunteered for all that many hours. Also I've only been working my full-time job about 2 months now.

Be honest 🙂

Thanks!

EDIT: I have letters of rec. coming in from
1. the former Director of the Psychology Program (who is also the IRB Chair and Assistant Professor of Management)
2. Professor of Humanities, Social Science and Communication (he's also an author and a researcher with numerous psychology articles published)
3. Assistant Professor of Natural Sciences (my biochem prof.)

your sGPA is almost .3 lower than your cGPA, why is that?

congrats on the solid cGPA tho, wish I had that GPA!

since you are a Michigan resident, I would say that you have a shot at MSUCOM and even Wayne state. Defiantly apply to all the private DO schools too and you might get lucky 🙂

Thanks 🙂

My low sGPA is due mainly to me botching chem 2. My life was pretty hectic around that time.

Your stats are fine, but many schools require/recommend a DO LOR. Some also require/recommend that you shadowed a DO. There's a list floating around.

Okay, I'll try and get one of those if possible. Do you think the fact that I don't have a LOR from either an MD or a DO will detract very much from my application as a whole? :/

considering most applicants do have an LOR from a doctor, you should try getting one.
