Have you already been submitted? Been verified? What is your post-bacc GPA? Who do you have LORs from? What else have you done since applying in 2011 besides retake the MCAT?

Paying for school without help from your family does not qualify you as disadvantaged. However, being from a poor family in which you had to work to pay for college and help support your parents/siblings does.

Have you already been submitted? No
Been verified? No
What is your post-bacc GPA? 4.0
Who do you have LORs from? D.O. and 2 faculty
What else have you done since applying in 2011 besides retake the MCAT?
Graduated
Made Chancellors List
Shadowed 40 more hours
Started a Post Bac
Completed an MCAT Prep Course, Retook MCAT

Went on A mission to Guatemala
Planning another in March
Looking to complete another 80+ hours of medical related experiences.

*** Your misinformed about disadvantaged statust at least for DO school criteria, I don't know about allopathic. Page 14 of application instructions to AACOMAS reads:

Disadvantaged Status

Please indicate whether you believe you are disadvantaged
either medically or economically, or both.
Medically disadvantaged means that you believe you grew
up in and/or currently live in a community that is underserved
by health-care providers.
Economically disadvantaged means that you believe you
grew up in a household that was economically disadvantaged
or that you are currently in such a situation, generally
defined by federal poverty guidelines (however, the
claim of economic disadvantage is based on your own
circumstances).

***I have lived under the Poverty level for some time now, applied and received fee assistance with AACOMAS, and have talked with five different school about my disadvantaged status and none brought up the fact of supporting parents or siblings while in school.

But you didn't answer my question. I have one for you: 8,800 post in some 8 months... An average of 37 post per day!!! What do you do with your self?!?!:eyebrow::eyebrow::eyebrow: I guess you have seen some numbers... So what do you think my chances are?

Your chances are fine...just submit if you haven't (and try not to care about people online)😉

x2. Your numbers look fine and are close to average amongst DO schools. Good luck with this application cycle

Agreed. Good luck! I'm sure you'll get lots of love this cycle.

SDN has been very helpful but it is an online forum. Keep that in mind.

My opinion of your chances depends on the questions I originally asked you.. which you didn't answer. Like I said, simply being from a non-wealthy family (as you originally indicated) is not enough to be considered disadvantaged. You did not say you actually qualified (by being below the poverty line). Either you didn't take the time to read my original post, or your reading comprehension skills could use some work.

If you've already submitted all your stuff, you'll be fine this cycle. While your stats are fine, If you are still weeks away from submitting your AACOMAS, the longer you wait the worse your chances get.

While DO schools are not as hard on reapplicants as MD schools, if all you've done since last cycle is improve your MCAT, you might be questioned about your sincerity.

Lastly, if you do not have a DO LOR, you are automatically disqualified from a few schools per their "requirements". There's a list floating around.

It was the 37 post a day comment wasn't it? No hard feeling I hope. Your original 5 questions which I took the time to read were all answered, but your statement still isn't verified. To correct your erroneous point I directed you to the established criteria for being disadvantaged according to the AACOMAS. Now you have the facts. There is no reference made by the AACOMAS to supporting ones family/siblings so it is not my reading comprehension that should be questioned at this point. I am all submitted and have two letters from DO's. I had some interviews last year with a lower than normal MCAT and GPA so I think this year will be better with both of these scores being raised by several points. Anyways, thanks for your input and I wish you the best of luck this cycle!

Look closer, he did answer those questions.

Anyway, OP, there's a dedicated forum for this kind of thing. I mean, it even has the same freakin' title as your thread.

I get kind of chafed seeing these threads pop up all the time when literally three inches away there's a dedicated sub section. 👎

My fault. I tend not to read things answered in the quote boxes.

So you submitted your primary today and are pending verification sometime in October. You should pre-write your secondaries now and be ready for them when they do come.

Where did you apply last year and when?

Did you get any interview invites?

Edit: Nevermind, saw that you got interviews. Where did you apply, when did you apply, and where did you get interviews if you don't mind me asking

Chances are fine. I suggest more ECs showing some altruism, and perhaps leadership; you've clearly got the patient contact experience.

I applied everywhere and early-early-early last year with bad stats: 24 (8/8/8) 3.1 overall and science GPA. I received an interview at VCOM South Carolina.

Thank you! Can we make this statement mandatory to post or something? I wonder how long it'll be until this thread gets transferred over...

I know right, I am with you guys... What an inconvenience to have to scroll down an extra cm to view someones post, Man! Oh and those moderators take sooo much time... Online forums nowadays, jeez! Great place for people to complain though right?

Haha I'm not complaining that the mods take a while to put your topic in its proper place. I kinda feel bad they have to pick up after people who could get better attention to their wants if they did something right the first time.

What?
