Hi there, I could really use some advice regarding my current situation.

Last semester I flunked out of a Big Ten School. I attended there for 3.5 years.

The first year and a half I had a GPA of 3.55.

After those 3 semesters I started suffering from depression and was recently diagnosed with major depressive disorder.

So after those 3 semesters my GPA started plummeting all the way down to a 2.35 and I failed a total of 7 Classes having received 0's in all of them. The last 4 being last semester causing me to flunk out. My GPA's for the following semesters after having a 3.5 were between 1.8 - 0.0

I currently have 63 Credits transferable to another University. I was wondering what my chances are of me being able to transfer to another University and bringing my grades back up to standard by retaking classes (IE the 7 I received 0's in)?

I never intended to have my grades drop so low and never anticipated being depressed. Every semester I would come in thinking the last was a fluke and it wasn't until I was kicked out I realized depression was affecting my capability. I have been seeing a physician and am currently being treated. I would just appreciate advice on how to go about to approach my academics from now on.

What took you so long to realize your depression was hindering you? You are in a tough spot, I dont know how ADCOMs view applicants who failed out of undergrad but I can't imagine you will find your foot in the door very easily. Find a way to overcome your depression or at least find the cause of it. If medical school is your #1 priority, then being depressed shouldn't effect your motivation to reach your goal.

First, take time off until you have your depression under control. Don't rush back to a school until you can put 100% of your attention on academics.

DO med schools only count the most recent grade in a given course, so if you retake all the Fs, AACOMAS, the primary DO application service, will recalculate your application GPA without them.

Another alternative would be to appeal to your school for a retroactive withdrawal from those three semesters armed with documentation from your treating physician. This appeal is not always granted, but it's worth a try.
