Hi! I just took DAT yesterday and got 21/21/26. I am wondering what are my chances to be accepted to dental schools. I have low GPA, which is 3.3 and taking biomedical certificate program to boost my GPA little. I have done research at NYUSD and 1000+ hours of shadowing etc. Which school would I have more chances to be accepted to? Is there any specific school that value PAT more than other dental schools?

THanks! Good luck to all!!

Oh! I am an international student(oos)!

Apply broadly and you'll be okay.

Apply to private schools since you're an international.

Your DAT is strong; however, the GPA is lacking a bit. How much do you expect this grad program will be able to bring it up? That will be a determining factor for where you should apply. If it is not going to be anything significant I would apply broadly to 15+ schools just in case. But you should be fine. Be sure to apply to NYU and Tufts since your GPA is around the average matriculants. GL

I'm in a similar situation with a 22/22/25, I've heard UoP favors higher DAT scores. I would take a look at the "where should I apply" thread and target the schools that are OOS friendly. Good luck!

I wouldn't think that a 3.3 is really that big of a deal with all of your other credentials. Remember that if the average GPA is a 3.5 GPA at a school (pretty common average for d-schools), there are likely about as many students with a 3.3 as there are with a 3.7 in attendance.

ehh i wouldnt worry TOO much. you'll land interviews, but just do WELL and be genuine on your interviews and you should get an acceptance. I had similar numbers, same GPA and nearly same DAT scores. However, I did alot of things OTHER THAN dentistry. Also if you can explain yourself well on your PS i think youll have a shot! gl man

Geezzz 26 on PAT? Wow...you certainly have a keen eyes my friend. I dun know about school that favors just 1 section of the DAT. But I heard that PAT cut off for some schools is 16-17! Apply early and broadly this cycle as I will too, just try...you never know what comes at you! GL

Nice PAT score. Def apply to UoP. You have their average AA/TS. Good work. Your GPA is good enough since you have a good DAT. Just build up the ECs, LoRs and PS. I had a 3.19 overall GPA and got into UMich. And my DAT was not that extraordinary. Good luck!

Mind sharing sgpa?

Hey guys, just wanted to see what my chances are for getting in to a dental school. I'm feeling pretty stressed:

DAT: 18.5 PAT: 20
GPA: 3.56
GPA-S: 3.34

I'm a Bio-Anthro major from UCLA and have done lots of reaserch, have got published, have shadowed 12 doctors, and have amazing extra activities. English as second language. (Not international though).

Should I not waste time and take the DAT again? 🙁

What's an 18.5 DAT? You should have both AA and TS scores. I would apply to appropriate schools.

OP,
I was in the same boat that you are in. I have almost the exact same DAT scores and had a 3.4 overall gpa. I was blessed with multiple interviews and acceptances. I applied to a lot of private schools and schools that really valued the DAT. I am not an international student though. I decided to attend LLU even though I am not SDA. You will get in! PM me if you have any particular questions.
