hi everyone,

i have a 3.4 gpa now and will be able to pull around 3.6. and trying to get atleast a 21 on dat , but will not be able to pull an undergrad degree by next year as i went to a comm coll for first 2 years to get an AA and had to do a lot of pre classes ending up doing 91 cr for a 60 cr. should i wait to finish my undergrad and then apply next year for 2011 or is there any possibilities to get in 2010. pls comment . any help/suggestion appreciated.

I get really irritated when people think their 3.5 GPAs are "low." Yes, if you get those scores and keep your GPA the way it is or boost it you will get lots of interviews.

according to AADSAS my overall GPA is a 3.44 ... so far this year I have received 12 interview invites. Take that for what it worth. see predents

Dude, your science GPA is nearly 3.7 and, as we all know, sgpa is what's important.

3.4 at a community college is really bad actually. You should get at least a year of 4-year science classes under your belt to get into state schools or better privates. You have to understand that most transfers have near 4.0's in both cum and sci gpas

Everyone taking the DAT is trying to get at least a 29. However, it does not happen. Why not get the 21 and then come out to play.

Dont assume anything for the DAT.

Nearly all of the dental schools SAY that they don't require a 4 year degree, but it always seems like they're going *nudge nudge* *wink wink* when they say that. Though, it does seem like there's always a few people who don't have a BS/BA who get in every year, but that's normally rare. The whole point of the application is to make you stand out over everyone else, and the degree is one of those things that's normally expected.

Also, I took Ochem, Gchem and Physics at a CC (CA has an AWESOME CC system) and had about a 3.6 Overall when I transferred, and about a 3.1 SCI when I applied, and 22AA (with a 30 in RC, I guess that makes me stand out a little more). Once I transfered I took all of my upper division classes and did research, and I'm graduating this spring.

I applied really late, my application got to the dental schools on December 3rd, and I still got three interviews, Howard, Columbia, and Pitt, I got into Howard, and am waiting on the other two. So in no way does taking pre-reqs at a CC kill you, but you need to prove yourself at the university, and if you don't have the degree, it's hard to show that.

Though, good luck, and if you really want to be a dentist, you'll be able to eventually if you work hard enough!

Dang! Being Hispanic and having a 30 in RC must look killer when applying. Good job on the DAT.

I agree with this statement for the most part. I went to a cc and a majority of students I knew had nearly 4.0s. A 3.4 at a cc is not that great because you are supposed to be proving that you are university material to gain university acceptance. I think a 3.4 at a private school or major university is fine. That's assuming that your science GPA is higher than the 3.4 and not lower.

Went to CC in San Diego. You are right. They have an amazing CC system. The CC that I went to is the 3rd largest in the country. It was a really great experience.
