I've been reading here on the forums that people stand no chance at getting a spot in a UK foundation training program if they are non-EU citizens.

But is it really all that simple for EU passport holders? Is there a shortage of available training spots?

2. Someone I met from med school in Edinburgh says they have a huge shortage of doctors up there and that it's really easy to get an FT spot.

What is the final word on this? Am still trying to figure out the bureaucratspeak on various websites. Would greatly appreciate a reply! 👍

You have little to no chance in Scotland - they are net exporters. ie they train more people than they have jobs for. The foundation school director that covers the area I'm in (in England) advised that only eight F1 jobs went to non-Scottish trained people.

Other places..... it depends I guess. I know at the two big hospitals I rotate through, there is not one F1 Dr who does not hold an EU passport. It's worth a shot if it's what you really want. Good luck!

Hi, thanks to both of you for your replies. I guess I should have been more specific, I am an EU passport holder. My friend in Edinburgh said that they were asking their foundation programme doctors to ask their friends if they wanted to join because the spots were not full...

Wow - that's really interesting. I wonder what the actual truth is...possibly somewhere in between.

Anyway, it may be that there is some hope for you then. Good luck with it.
