For private schools, I hear Columbia is pretty good. How much does the other private schools cost, i know that like Harvard is 50,000 a year and NYU is expose to cost a bunch.

out of the list of d-schools on the adea i believe howard & creighton are the least expensive private schools (30k-ish)

and i beleive harvard is like 65k

😱 😱 😱

and here i was thinking that NYU is already pushing the limit at 50k... 65k is more than many places charge for all 4 years!! that's insane, but i guess if you're going to specialise, you can afford it. but my brain hurts at the thought - there's a reason i chose to go to a CUNY for undergrad...

On a side note .. My state school, Mississippi, which i didn't attend ... has a tuition of 6581 per year.

That's ridiculous. Anyways, i'm bitching about 25k at UTMem, i can't imagine 50k.

Harvard tuition is $34k. I'm pretty sure it's by far the cheapest ivy. It's $50k when you factor in living expenses and all that jazz. Penn is $45k but closer to $60 with living expenses and whatnot. Some schools reach their budget total differently, so I like to see just the tuition breakdown on its own first. Then, look at living expenses in the area and your personal lifestyle to get a better idea of what your personal grand total would be. This type of information is usually rather clearly stated on the school's websites, so look it up before you start giving people the wrong information.

Are you all asking about tuition or tuition plus all expenses? To get a good idea of cost we should look at all expenses. Most private schools will run around 60K a year and most public schools will run from 50 to 60 depending on if you are in state or out of state. However, I would love to know the true numbers. So, if anybody has stats from their interviews please post them.
AZ: 61K year 1, 58K year 2
UCSF: 50K year 1 (instate), 50K + 12K = 62k year 1 (out of state)

Bingo. You have to look at more than just tuition as there will be a lot more added to the grand total.

These stats are a bit dated, but should give you an idea of which are the more expensive schools.

I like how at the top of this site they say a superior gpa ranges from 3.3 to 4.0. That makes me feel so good about myself. And Harvard is the cheapest private school; $50k total for the year.

True answer to this question: cheapest private school is the one where you get a full or half scholarship. I know those exist at harvard and penn respectively. Upacific also offers quite a few large scholarships. I can't think of any other scholarships at private schools. I know people who have gotten massive money from ucla i think.

NYU gives out a bunch of full scholarships, and some partial ones as well, i think.

Penn does give the half tuition dean's scholarship, but Harvard does not have half or full tuition scholarships. They really don't give much in the way of scholarships. Either way the half tuition scholarship at penn only makes it a little more affordable than Harvard.

no... ? wrong again? What's with the attitude?

How do you know harvard doesn't have a full scholarship? Did you ask? Or are you assuming just because you haven't gotten it?

No, I didn't have to ask because I was told during the financial aid session at my interview and once again in the financial aid packet I received upon being accepted.

Well then, I guess you proved me wrong then.  You know, sometimes it pays to be nice to people - trust me, you'd get further ahead.

Wow! Goldstar, did you really get accepted to Harvard?! Really now?! Because I think that's what you implied in your last post, and I'd be really amazed because harvard is such an amazing school!!! Did you really get in to harvard?! Really?! Please, let us know.  :meanie:

Total cost for Ohio State is in the neighborhood of $25K/year, ~$100K to walk out as a Dentist.

Not always. It depends how much of the budget you actually will use.

It IS important to look at tuition AND fees, however. Dental schools are notorious for having X amount for tuition and then another 1/3 of X on top of that for "fees".

goldstar, aren't need-based scholarships/grants offered at Harvard?

columbia is 37K. but the cost of NYC living will add significantly.

Thanks Taco. Quakinator is jealous, that's all. But on a serious note, I don't want anyone to think I delusional. Regardless of the opportunity costs and the extra year in practice, we still graduate with a huge amount of debt. That is real dollars that have to be paid back to uncle sam.

Anyway, to comment on the prices of schools I'll say this: I don't think it matters too much. In the end, dentists can pay off their debt, regardless of the amount, and have a comfortable lifestyle down the road. Of course price factors into decisions, but for me, it wasn't a top concern. I was mostly interested in going to a school where I thought I'd get the type of clinical education I wanted, regardless of the price.

Why'd you choose UT over Mississippi?

I don't have exact figures, but Texas schools are a bargain .

public state schools down south are generally pretty (relatively) "cheap." less tuition, plus the living expenses are lower
