So.. Just like the first all Tesla's. lol
I just don't think I'd ever get over not hearing a car engine while I'm driving.
Add a couple lasers to shoot down womprats like I did in my T16 back home and we have a deal

When your body is glued to the seat any time you push the pedal to the floor because you have instant torque on demand and have the acceleration of a super car, you will only think "man I don't miss anything about my old car. "

For car enthusiasts, the car's sound plays a huge role in the excitement of the vehicle. The change in tone from a deep rumble up to a screaming wail, then doing it again after changing gears really gets your heart pounding more than just acceleration alone would. That's the reason supercar manufacturers hire sound engineers to tune the exhaust notes, the way doors sound when you close them, and even the stereo system.

Agree this is definitely true. I was just pointing out that there are benefits to electric vehicles and while you are giving up the sweet sound, you are getting some really cool benefits and I was arguing that these benefits will make it so that when you are in the car you are not day dreaming of being in a gasoline driven vehicle.

Having said that, one little toy that I have always been fascinated to at least drive is the Ariel Atom. That thing is pretty much like a mini Formula 1 car.

I will test your theory as soon as I can, for sure. I may even add one to the stables. Any idea what the range and battery life is for teslas while undergoing high performance driving? If the batteries can't last for at least a solid 30 minutes at the track I am not sure I could really call it the high performance vehicle that it is touted to be.

And Ariel Atoms are sweet. I have never had the opportunity to drive one but I have been up close with several.

With the new software update, the Model S P85D is supposed to have a range just over 300 miles, however driving it on a track I would imagine you would probably be anywhere from 120 if you drive super super hard, up to 180miles depending on the type of track. Time wise, I'm confident you could get 30 solid minutes of track time for sure. You should probably be able to get an hour or hour and a half of hard driving track time if I had to guess. Fair warning though, I have not tracked the Tesla yet though so don't take me at my word.

If I can hold out till 16 for it, and if I have the money of course, I want a Bentley SUV.

And if I had unlimited funds, this guy. G63 6X6. 2Obnoxious2Care.

Large%20Image%20(optional).jpg

it always is hilarious how the "off-road" type SUVs end up being chick cars. like jeeps, G wagons, land rovers. they all talk about how they can do so well in the desert or going over giant boulders, yet the common use for them is driving to starbucks and the mall

Lol. A jeep is not a "chick car". I drive a wrangler and I off-road it pretty hard. It will go over just about anything. Land Rovers are also extremely capable. The biggest issue people have is they realize damn. I just spent 60k on this land rover LR4, do I really want to add some nature pinstripes to the paint or risk damaging a fender or scraping the belly. But if you are okay with that risk, they will go many places too.

One of my buddies actually works for Tesla and said they may add artificial sounds to some of the models because they are "too quiet". Apparently pedestrians can't hear them coming from a reasonable distance and they're worried about potential lawsuits. Those lasers would be sweet though.

From your previous posts, I may be way off base here but you seem like a very cynical and serious/up tight person.... But what do I know. Who cares I guess.

Actually, out of everyone I knew that owned a jeep in hs or college only 1 of them was a guy and he actually did take it off-roading pretty regularly. The vast majority were girls who thought they were safer in them. Idk, maybe it's a regional thing...

Yeah maybe it is a regional thing. Who knows....

As for the tesla adding sound, you may have a better source then me. But it was my understanding that that was just a fun little rumor people stirred up but is not actually going to happen and was not really considered. That would be quite silly. If you think about it, what situation where you have a MVA vs Ped would the car making more noise have made a difference?

I bet 90 % of jeep owners are chicks. 10 % are dudes that use them for their actual purpose.

I agree it's dumb to scratch up a 60k car, but they still are advertised for that purpose. It's like a psychological thing. Why not just call them luxury brands. No idea but they make commercials advertising the off road ability not the luxury

It's not just the torque. Which, btw, any awd sports car has plenty of torque as do rwd exotics for top end. It's also the cues you get from the sounds...read below

That and the sounds tell you alot about things that can/are going wrong. Rough idle, knock (dear god the worst sound you will ever hear if you experience rod knock), etc. I'm so used to that it makes it so easy to tell where something is wrong that I don't even need a CEL to tell me. It's gotten to the point where the CEL is the end all for everything (which is why I just went and bought a Bluetooth obd scanner that connects to my phone).
I'm not saying Tesla's are horrible. I was eagerly awaiting electric cars when Japan released one with 4 electric "motors" that powered each wheel independently and capable of making 300 hp with 200 lbs torque per wheel. PER WHEEL.
But now it seems the premium makes it not as likeable.
Though, I still go nerd mode when I go to Cars and Coffee on weekends and see people making their own electric cars by themselves. The winner? Electric Lamborghini. And, yeah, it was still fast. Expensive? Sure. But that was hilariously awesome.

Ugh, please don't. Unless you make it sound like a flux capacitor or the millennium falcon going into light speed. lol

Also, very few people buy trucks/suv vehicles and use them like such. Hence why I agree with what you said. It just pains me seeing these things not being used to their potential or benefits. At least haul some damn cargo!

Nah, it's sitting too low and the tires aren't big enough.
Also missing the confederate flag.

Edit- just saw the 6 wheels. Are you trying to be a semi? Have fun replacing tires lol

The mid to lower end price range ones are made for that. The German ones are basically Germany saying "we put our engine in a truck and added 50k to the price! And you'll pay it! Hahaha hail Hitler! "
OK, maybe not the Hitler thing. But if you look at how hard the price went down after you bought one (Porsche Cayenne now selling for under 10k when they were 125k), you can kinda see how some of these things were made to rip people off.

If Wikipedia is a source here's the article. Legislation was already passed by the EU, and the U.S. is in the process, but there's no requirement yet. I think it's more of a 'just in case' thing to cover themselves from potential lawsuits.

Good thing electric motors don't have the possibility for knocking issues or rough idle! Probably why they are so quite about those things!

California resident? I live not too far from the Cars and Coffee meet and have still never gone.

VW actually had a thing called a sound pipe in their GTI. It is a pipe that leads somewhere behind the glove box and leads to the engine bay. It helped provide some turbo whistle sound inside the cabin haha

BMW M5 (with the v8 TT) funnels noise into the cabin as well. But damn that e60 v10 was DOPE.

Well,
I honestly picture an Xbox 360 red ring of death or windows blue screen for electric cars lol
There's going to be some CEL code of death. You'll read it and be like "time of death... "

Cars and Coffee is national apparently. It's here in the Midwest. If it's anything like the one here, I definitely recommend going. It's not immature like night meets with street races, the people are pretty chill. Families come. Talk about cars or whatever. Though it was funny when I purposefully parked my car in the middle of this row of Lamborghini's. Everyone was like "Noooooo! You ruined it!"
But I moved my car. Because I knew they were waiting for someone else to come. lol

Another car that's depreciated. And it's so tempting. The price tag is sooo tempting. I especially love the reviews for the older m5s where people say "yeah, this isn't really a sedan. BMW lied. You hit the accelerator and realize it's a rocket. Seriously be careful taking turns because these cars love to go sideways."

haha hell yeah! Although, I have read concerns with reliability with the older models (around 2008ish).

I personally know a guy who bought a 2008 m6 from Carmax. Engine malfunction. Paid $150 deductible for his Maxcare extended warranty.

Replaced his V10 engine lol Courtesy of BMW!

RIDICULOUS.

If you can swing it financially, do it!!!!

Yeah,
Pay to play. I'll admit I own a 02 M3. I bought it recently for a great price. I loved the car when it first came out but there was no way in hell I could afford it. This one came up last summer and I couldn't be happier. But it's not to say there doesn't come a cost with owning the car. Which I was expecting. But the nightmare is the "SMG pump failure". Small part for the transmission that costs $4000 to fix. It happens randomly. And no one knows why. Hasn't happened to me but I'm expecting it. But it's the thing people don't realize about buying these cars now. "OMG, I'm going to buy this Audi for cheap! Hurray! Oh, wait, the tires cost how much? Wait, the clutch costs how much?" and then they sell it.
If you want horrible, look up the 2000+ Porsche Carrera and their issue. If you ever looked at these cars online and wondered why they were so cheap, look at the ims/rms whatever failing part. This tiny thing will fail and it costs $15k+ to fix. And the cars are selling for 25k. No warranty. I only know because I saw a Carrera for sale and was tempted and then looked into it. Found out about this issue and was like "So I'm gonna buy a car for 20k and this part will fail costing me the exact price I bought the car for? Haha no"

Check your batteries. I'd stock up on a couple Energizer batteries for road trips.

Fair enough. I don't see charging stations popping up nationwide anytime soon, which means for now the Tesla is impractical for anything other than city driving.

Yes. Very true. Just because they are cheap in terms of buying the vehicle doesn't mean the maintenance will be as well. Many people are always iffy about buying used vs. new, but I preach that buying a certified pre-owned vehicle with extended warranty should be the way to go (ATLEAST with brands that are synonymous with reliability issues --> think of Mercedes, BMW, Audi, etc.). I think that Porsche has bee by far the most reliable German brand in the last 3-4 years. However, this is of course given the fact that you can A) Afford it and B) Maintain it.

btw. I LOVE the older m3. The e46 is a classic. My micro professor actually had the same one! lol
I think if reliability is a concern in terms of financial stability the way to figure out what brand to go with is look at the average amount of non-routine Maintence that model has per year or what not, and multiple that by the average cost to fix a non-routine Maintence problem, then take this out for 5 years (so multiply by 5) do this for all the cars and it will normalize the cost of non-routine maintence across all the brands and you can see which would be less costly to own. A Porsche for example may have less things break on a time basis, but when something breaks it's about 2-3x as expensive to fix as on a BMW or Audi (which are already expensive)

Routine Maintence costs should be about the same for all of them because they all use premium fluids/filters. The only thing that is a wearable item that would be more expensive on a Porsche is the brakes. But that would probably only be like 25-50% more expensive I would assume. So for this I would just make routine maintence a wash and just calculate for the non-routine maintenance on a normalized basis.

Google "cost to own" and there's a site that will tell you the average yearly cost of owning certain cars. It's fairly accurate and definitely paints a good picture on how feasible it'd be to get that car you're wanting.
Brakes, tires, transmission (clutch), oil. But then add parts that eventually can go bad at higher miles (suspension, axles, etc).
Porsche's win hands down. The 911 turbos are amazingly reliable and a great daily sports car.
Audi - head gaskets. The part is cheap but you have to literally remove the damn engine to change it lol.

Not the most extravagant purchase, but that's all the luxury I'm looking for to be honest.
I have always liked the thought of a nice home gym. I actually almost bought an used squat rack for a good price but I think I would prefer working out with people around me, not necessarily with me but around me haha. Unless I had a group of friends who enjoyed working out, specifically power lifting/olympic lifting, but none of my friends work out haha. I feel like I would get really bored working out at home alone.

At this point in medical school, all I want to do with my first "real" paycheck is to supersize a value meal without thinking twice about it... then maybe a jet.

The greatest sports car of all time...
Still prefer the e46. But not to say I disagree it's amazing. Especially how this car continues to win over reviewers. The "best bang for the buck". Though they're still hefty in terms of price lol

I'm looking more for a daily driver that still can crush it on the track. That might be a little out of my price range, though I do agree it is dope.
Yeah,
That car is something you put in a museum lol
It's just funny it took car manufacturers so long to make a car that trumped the F1 and it was the ugly Bugatti

I have about 8 years to go. I am just starting this journey into medicine. I would probably Just want to work and get my loans taken care of, and then buy my dream car!!!

hows that thing drive? FAST?!

And I prefer this one. I'll see your super car and raise you a hyper car FTW.

249mph top speed in Under 20 seconds. Can do 0-60 in 2.8 seconds 90mph to 155mph in 3.2 seconds. All done without a transmission.

I introduce to you the Koenigsegg Regera.

Yea the E46 model has been rated again and again as the best M3 ever made. If you're really looking for a budget car that can still hold its own against super cars a GTR is not too shabby. I just don't want to be "that guy" that most GTR drivers turn into haha.

High quality condoms. That's right, no more Saran Wrap and rubber bands.

Oh, and books so that the political ignorance expressed in this thread can be combated more effectively.
