OChem Lab (1)
Functional Anatomy & Kinesiology (3)
Exercise Endocrinology (3)
Introduction to Nutrition (3)
Greek & Roman Mythology (3)

Gotta love the humanities classes! This fall will be my first semester of PT school! We don't have any choice in class and time selection; these are chosen for us. But according to our degree plan, this is what my first semester will look like:

Human Gross Anatomy
Basic Physical Therapy Skills
Exercise Testing and Prescription in Physical Therapy
Clinical Management in Internal Medicine
Developmental Concepts: Adolescence to Geriatrics
Professional Practice in Physical Therapy

Sounds awesome! lol.

Congrats on your acceptance & matriculation!

That semester does sound sweet. You're going to have so much fun!

I'll play this game. 🙂 I'm also starting my DPT program this fall. Sooo, my schedule is a la so:

Human Gross Anatomy Lecture & Lab (6)
Human Physiology (3)
Introduction to Clinical Skills (2)
Principles of Practice I: Intro to PT Practice (3)

I like this thread. We can all get a chance to see what we may or may not be studying first semester, and how different schools structure their curriculum!

Fall 2011
Gross Anatomy
Human Physiology
Pathophysiology/Pharmacology I
Biomechanics/Movement Science I
Exams and Systems Review I
Intervention Skills I

As I typed that, several tears streamed down my face!:scared:

Ox, you're legit.

Great looking semesters guys. Looks like a lot of fun.

My next semester is during this summer 😡

Physics 2

Biology Seminar

Gotta love those science classes! 😀

Francium,

I think there is a mixture. Some ppl are posting what they will be taking in DPT school while others are posting there undergraduate coursework.

Thanks Ox. And I have to agree with Kinesstudent; your classes look pretty legit and super fun! Good luck and happy learning! 😀

I am not sure how "fun" it's going to be, lol! I am excited though, because I am "one of those people" who truly loves to learn, especially about the human body!

I'll play too...

Human Anatomy & Histology (6)
Mgmt Applications of Physiology (3)
Biomechanics (3)
Critical Inquiry (3)

Dang, man. How many "credit hours" is this?? Our curricula are SO different. Pretty intense!

Wow, you better be heavily supplied with motivation, coffee and a healthy dislike of the outdoors.

Goyo,

I believe it is 20credit hours the first semester, and that is pretty much the standard throughout the program(19-22cr/semester). There is some respite in the summer, when we have 13-15 credits for half of the summer, and then the curriculum begins to integrate full-time clinical experiences that first summer.

I think one of the prevalent "issues" in the field is that the curriculum of the 200+ programs is extremely varied. I hope there is improvement in this area moving forward, because we want to produce the most well-rounded clinicians/researchers/professionals as possible.

Hi All - I am finding it difficult to get into most of these pre-reqs at my local community college! I am another non-trad... I am hoping to take Chemistry I and Physics I in the Fall... while working a full-time job as an Accountant. Has anyone ever taken these two classes while working full-time and if so, do you think you had enough time to do well in them? I am so determined to make this career change but I don't want my grades to be affected if I take on too much. Also, I am going to apply to a few schools in Dec-March but will have Physics II and Chemistry II outstanding. The schools that I am applying to state that we are allowed to have 2 classes outstanding at application, but will this hurt me at all?

OH I'm motivated...but I hate coffee and I love the outdoors...so I have 1 out of 3 going for me. Classes just started yesterday and I was in the same classroom from 10 am to 9 pm. I almost died...Chem was alright, but Physics was just way over my head. I think I'll be spending a lot more time in the library than I was hoping too...Here's to the best summer ever! 🙁

At least when this is over I'll be done with all of me pre-reqs and will have a complete application with nothing outstanding....:xf: That is if I don't fail miserably.

Dang Ox! That is a huge courseload. All of my semesters are like 14 credits. I think I have a total of 102 when I graduate from my program... I think it's because we have the modified PBL, so I don't have as many individual courses as you, I have big credit courses (6-11cr for one course) that pulls in everything. Yikes.

I am not sure how "fun" it's going to be, lol! I am excited though, because I am "one of those people" who truly loves to learn, especially about the human body!
Me too!!! I wonder if we'll be singing this song when we are in the thick of things!!! Haha

M&M,

Yea I am mentally preparing for an onslaught from hell, actually. I never got the general impression(during my interview/tour) that students were always at the brink of burnout and the matriculation rate is 99%+, but it will be interesting to say the least. As you mentioned, we do have several basic science courses structured like those in your program(6cr.), and they will more than likely be doozies. The other reason why there is a lot more total credits is because of the length of clinical rotations(53+weeks of full time clinical rotations) throughout the program. On top of that, we start out with part-time clinicals next spring as a "phase in" to our full-time clinical experiences.

Either way, I imagine we will be fine when it's all said and done😉! Let's just soak it up while we can, because come August it's gon' get real critical out here. Lol!

In mid-June I start my last semester of classes in PT school! Woo!

-Clinical Management of Patients with Musculoskeletal Dysfunction III
-Clinical Management of Patients with Amputations
-Clinical Management of Patients with Lymphatic & Integumentary Dysfunction
-Clinical Management of the Complex Patient
-Clinical Practice Seminars VI
-Professional Role Development IV
-Movement Science Technology

It's only 12 credit hours, the lowest I've ever had. Year One 1st semester was 26 credit hours, so this is awesome!

NICE!! Are you starting to think about the light at the end of the tunnel? I know you have some time left, but does it feel like a relief knowing that your are getting to the applied portion of the coursework?

The lack of standardization of what constitutes a "credit hour" muddles the whole comparison schema. My program is only 98 credit hours long, but it seems to me from the current students, it's MUCH more than that (some of them were ready to commit seppuku), as I bet the other programs are, too. Also, the seeming disparities in classes taught is eh.

I also like the idea of programs integrating CIs into the didactic coursework--one of the elements I was looking for when applying to PT school. A large majority of schools put off their CIs until the last semesters of schooling. I know that the Mayo Clinic PT program TheOx777 is attending does this, as does TWU.

But I can't wait. And congrats Akiramay! You're almost there, and inspiration to us all! haha

First... this made me laugh, then it made me cry because it's true!!!!! 😛

That's why it's so important for the people getting ready to apply that they thoroughly understand what each school stands for, and how they approach the teaching of PT. But, I totally agree!!

The school I'm attending does this, for example after the wonderous 11 cr "Management of Musculoskeletal Systems Dysfunction" class we are immediately placed in orthopedic OP settings to maximize what we've just learned... Then, when we go back for classes we start getting into cardiopulm, neurology, etc and then we're immediately placed in a specialized area or IP to drive home all the concepts. Then more coursework and then the last clinical they try to get you placed in an area of specialty that you are leaning towards/a placement unlike the first two.

I'm excited to see how it all pans out! I know that at least mentally I've made the right choice for me, as I've heard a lot of horror stories (Not all bad, but majority 95% bad) of the other schools I was considering, so it makes me feel that at least I should be able to attempt to keep my sanity!!!

But I can't wait. And congrats Akiramay! You're almost there, and inspiration to us all! haha
Agreed-- knock this last part out of the park!!!! 🙂

This is a good forum! I am DREADING anatomy though. Not necessarily difficult, but SO MUCH memorization...and ironically I got the lowest grades (B-, B+) in A&P I, II in undergrad.

1st year DPT
Kinesiology & Biomechanics I w/lab
Examination & Evaluation w/lab
Professional Development I Seminar
Gross Anatomy w/lab
Applied Physiology w/lab
Theory & Application of PT Research

Total Credits: 22 total

And they estimate that students will spend ~26 hrs outside of the classroom studying!!😱

Exciting stuff NoleGirl! I really thought this program had one of the more comprehensive curriculum setups out of all of the programs I applied to. The clinical affils.........:wow:sheesh! Best wishes with to you.
It's gonna be a wild ride!

Definitely! It's weird because these 2 years of school have flown by! It's crazy to think where I started and how far I've come. It's nice to be able to apply what I've learned in class, but it's getting out there in the clinic that really drives it home, and makes going through school totally worth it (sometimes you wonder, why am I doing this? You know? Ha ha). Anyways, graduation day still feels a long ways away but we'll all be there before we know it, right? 😉

And thanks for all the kind words everyone. I know you'll do great in your upcoming coursework! 🙂

OUCH!😱 That sounds like a blast!

It has been awful. ha. I have one week left. And actually, I had to drop Chem II this latter half of the summer because they changed professors from the first part and this guy was friggin' crazy hard. All four of us in the class got less than 40% on his first exam because he didn't teach us anything and then turned around and expected WAY too much, and less than 50% on each of the first three lab reports because he was overly ridiculous in his grading. He was treating us like grad student chem majors. I couldn't jeopardize my whole PT app for one jerk professor, especially since I have straight A's except for one B in Physics I. So I just have to figure out when over the next year I can take Chem II--no big thing. ha.

Other than that, I've done okay. I got an A in Chem I, a B in Physics I, and so far I have an A in Physics II. All I have left are two lab reports to hand in and my final exam next Thursday which I will be studying all weekend/most of next week for! yay! Hopefully all of this will pay off and I will get into DUKE!!!!!!!! that's the dream....lol. :xf:

This is my last fall semester of undergrad. :/

Intro to Molecules and Cells (BIO205)
Developmental Psychology (PSYC207)
Japanese III (JAPN201)
Hiroshima: Eros or Thanatos? (CAPS406)

Those are great grades for a 5 week class (I am assuming 5 weeks since you said you are taking all four over the course of 10 weeks). Excellent. Best of luck getting into Duke 🙂

I hate when professors act like you are a super genius of whatever the class is that you are taking... so annoying; but you definitely have time to get that chem 2 in and everything else has been awesome for you!!! 🙂

College Algebra (2nd X seeing as I got an "F" the 1st X because I was unaware I was to drive 5-6 hours to take the final exam on campus for an ONLINE class! Grrr!)
US History II
National Government

...all online with my out of state university. I will transfer to a Texas college next spring and start taking the fun science courses on campus!

I will make sure this time to take a day off and drive to my old campus to take the final exam if the professor so wishes. Nothing like having a straight A for the entire class when you busted your butt to make a good grade because you knew it would count towards your M&S GPA. . .and then watch it all go down the drain 😡
