and how do you overcome (or succumb) to it?

Just thought it would be interesting to find out.

Here are a list of mine:

1. Internet: I am a photography enthusiast, and spend a lot more time than I'd like to surfing photography forums discussing photography, latest equipment etc.

2. Photography: every now and then I have the urge to take a day off and go shooting. Then I have to come back and post-process them and post them on my gallery.

So in summary, if I gave up photography it would free up a lot of time for study, but then my life would be much less interesting..

Now what about you guys?

Ezekial your photos are amazing. I have always wanted to get into photography. Any suggestions on camera for someone who knows nothing about photography?

edit: i see you are in Sydney...i used to live on Oxford St. in Paddington 😛

Hi there.

Thanks for the compliment.

I think the best thing to do is to start small, with a tiny compact digital camera that you can take anywhere. You should be able to get a good one on ebay for $200-300. I would recommend the Canon IXUS series, but don't necessarily go for the latest release. 4MP is enough resolution on compact cameras, and greater MP count will actually decrease picture quality due to increased noise.

Once you have your camera, take it everywhere and take pictures of whatever is interesting. If photography is for you, then you will naturally feel the urge to use an SLR camera, for the creative control (depth of field, different lenses for different effects etc).

Good luck, but be warned that it can take up a lot of your time and money.. I restrict my photography sessions to about once every 3 weeks or so, and in the holidays of course.

Regards

Ezekiel

yep, the ducati is nice eye candy, but the Aprilia is a far superior street bike. I still think the 916/996/998 series is one of the prettiest ever, but a torture rack to drive. Aprilia is one of the best kept secrets in Italian motorcycling...... japanese reliability, italian style, excellent perfromance 👍

Hey there,
There are few sweeter sounds on this earth than the sound of a Guzzi or Ducati. All of these are sweet!
nbjmd 🙂
It's already too cold for me.

books, tv, computer, internet, online gaming, eating, sleeping, chat, ummmmm

1. My fiance

2. TV

3. Working out

4. Naps

5. Anything, when I am desperate/distractable enough (cleaning, making dinner, etc.)

Now this is a great picture, though you should think about, whether you want this pic resurfacing once you are a doctor.

Maybe he wants to be a proctologist?

The Internet, and of course sher lazyness.

I got someone to hide my xbox power cord from me...was making life difficult(damn you extreme beach volley ball).

As far as the OPs question of overcoming temptation, what I do is set up a system of rewards. Say study for two hours, then spend an hour doing what I like (i.e watching a show or catching up with friends or writing). Sometimes of course it breaks down on me but I still get done the things I need to get done. I think rather than thinking of them as distractions, I think of them as my life outside of medicine--something to balance me out and hence a good thing. If you use them as rewards for studying then you won't feel so guilty about them and it keeps you plowing through those books.

egh. civilization IV. I'll start studying soon as I defeat the evil French.

How is that game, Ive been meaning to get it?

👍 It's awesome! If you were into previous civ games, they took out some of the annoying stuff like rioting, and you need better strategy...
Beware if you do buy it - you're either gonna throw some social time, study time, or both down the toilet.

Civ4... damnit, I can't wait for finals to be over...

I am absolutely staying away from civilizations IV until after step 2. Rome Total War had me sweating bullets on a few shelf exams.

1. Video games

2. Nite clubs and the chics who hang out in em.

3. internet

4. movies/theaters

Long Dong, you are my new favorite.

My non-human distractions...

1. Yamaha SuperJet - a stand-up type jet ski
2. Sea-Doo XPL
3. Scuba Diving
4. Snow skiing and snowboarding
5. Playing with my Jeep
6. Playing rec sports

I love option number 1. I'll usually do that over any other distraction... it's very cheap to operate and loads of fun. I'm pretty good at overcoming 2-6. 4 is overcome due to the fact that I live in Miami. 5 is due to the fact that South Florida is relatively flat. 2, 3, and 6 are overcome since I usually use my free time playing with 1. Anyway, time management is key! Ok, back to baby Moore and muted MNF.
