What are your EC's?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I play Sims2, read novels about people who actually have interesting lives, and travel to Disney World semi-annually. I also sleep alot, and eat 3 meals daily. Are these impressive non-academic activities? 😕

I invented the letter "B." As you can imagine, we're all better off with this letter, things were pretty damn lacking without it.
Um, seriously... when i applied, started a club, vp of that club, ta'ing, tutoring, 1.5 yrs research, coupla awards, standard ER volunteering and some shadowing, played club tennis, competetive running. nothing too mind blowing but it was good enough for med schools.

lol i wonder if anyone has put "Pimping" as an EC that would be awwwweeesome

I am president of a couple of clubs and volunteer at a free clinic.

OK. I'm assuming you're posting this because you want people to comment on what you maybe ought to do in order to strengthen your app. I think that you should do whatever the hell you're interested in so that adcoms can see who you are as a person, they want to see you're individuality, personality, what turns you on.

That being said, the one thing that you really absolutely need on a medical school application with few to no exceptions is clinical experience. My personal experience has found that shadowing physicians is the best way to gain this-- you get to see exactly what the role of a doctor is like, you get to ask them questions, watch them interact with patients, etc. It also helps if you can get someone who knows you who is in the medical profession to write you a letter of recommendation.

I get eaten every Thanksgiving in various forms.

I don't know why I fill this crap out but...if it helps someone and it gives me something to do since im bored waiting for the mail and for my #1 to finally get me an interview invite here you are...intercollegiate (DIII) varisty soccer, 2 year executive board member of fraternity, 2 year content tutor, several honor/service societies (mortar, ls, ooo), habitat for humanity (going on 8th year of involvement + several service trips), medical preceptor (2 years of family physician shadowing at 2 hrs a week), 2.5 years of research (Mayo, undergrad and CSHL), 4 year admissions office tour guide/student interviewer and other crap like committee and fundraising appointments yada yada yada...why did i post this crap...honestly I think you should do what you enjoy...for me that was playing soccer, volunteering for habitat and organizing ridiculous parties at my frat (ie filling our basement with sand...etc.)

Uhh, nowadays, battling the malls for good deals on toys for children of friends I still have yet to visit this holiday season. My most taxing experience yet...
