I'll start:

(1) Get my BMI back to 22 (currently 26). Living a little bit too much of the "good life" as an attending.

(2) Reduce my television watching habits to less than 4 hours per week.

(3) Study for two hours every night until I sit for the Oral Anesthesiology boards.

(4) Stop engaging in pointless arguments with dooshes on the "SDN Anesthesiology" forum

I start 1/1/10. The last one is going to be the hardest.

I try not to do resolutions. Try not to wait until the New Year 🙂. That said:

1. BMI = 20. Heftin out at 21-22.
2. Decrease Netflix addiction time to < 7 hrs a week. I watched about 100 episodes of law and order SVU on OB nights. Can't study in the middle of the night.

3. Run 3-4 100 milers this yr, including Leadville (Colorado here I come)

4. Graduate from residency
5. Learn how to be a competent anes attending from my future pardners.
6. Continue to read SDN everyday and not get suked into ego-threads.

I have one resolution:
Avoid getting annoyed by slimy people.

For someone who doesn't read my posts, you sure respond a lot to threads I start.

And, your resolution is going to be very difficult seeing as you probably look in the mirror, on a daily basis, a lot more than the average person.

(Hey, I still have a few days... ).

Try out The Wire on Netflix if you don't watch it already. It won't help you limit your Netflix time, but it's really good.

I don't have a BMI problem either, but some exercise is good for thin people too. I'm going to try to play more tennis.

1) Pass STEP 3

2) Find more time to study Q day

3) Get another black belt in a new martial art

4) Meditate everyday

5) Plant a tree

6) Donate money and food

7) Clean my old paint brushes and put them to good use

8) Cook and clean more at home 🙂

Pass step 3? Medidate? WTF?

Where am I? California?

(haha)

Don't mess with my homey, Siam. 🙂

He is one Kool cat. Gots to respect him for having goals.

Hope all is well, Siam.

Dre'

I feel you. And, thanks for the reality check, Dre.

My impression is that the dude (is it a "dude", right?), lfesiam, is an all-around peaceful soul. I respect that.

But, fact is, that doesn't make the world spin. And, if you don't make the world spin, you're just hanging on for the ride.

Hope all is well, Siam. (I think I'm getting blown-off. Oh well.)

Siam is a guy. Rotated at my program. He's an unusually accomplished renaissance man. Martial arts, cooking, anesthesia someday.

He's on a path. Pretty cool, you dont see that much.

I understand that kind of philosophy seems "weak" but some might argue that is where true strength lies...

I aint no hippy but there have been some pretty cool peaceful dudes like MLK, Gandhi, etc. I dont think they were hangin on...

Oh and Copro this is just perspective (nor dissin' your opinion), I am not much of hippy myself but I respect people who truly are on a respectable path.

Dre' is peaceful after a post work run in the snow...

- Run, swim, bike, and lift once a week.

- Read at least 6 "classics"

- Spend less time on SDN (no offense, guys!)

- Watch less than 2 hours of TV per week

- Like the meditate idea of Siam. Maybe take up some meditation?

-Do 180 days of p90x.
-Compose a full length CD: play more guitar/bass/piano/drums
-60 days on my snowboard.
-pick up my pastels and draw something cool I can frame.

I've never actually seen the show (MTV is mainly targeted at 14-year-olds, after all), but I've been subjected to its "pop iconology" through other TV programs... and the ensuing controversy about how it portrays Italian-Americans.

Suffice it to say, it is at the very least an excellent educational documentary for the public to learn from and be quickly able to identify what represents a douche-bag.

Your missing out!!! New episode on tomorrow night, 8PM EST! I'll be out on the town, that's what TIVO is for.

New year resolution. First and foremost I will work hard for a 40 on my ITE, cut down to 240lbs, get my bench to 500lb probably around 450 right now. And to stop being addicted to facebook.

1) Match

2) Get down to 165-170 before internship starts (currently 175-180).
3) Get as much MW2 out of my system as possible.

2 and 3 might be at odds...

Get matched and be able to show up on my first day with clean clothes.

I am who I am. Happy, fulfilled. I may see the world differently than most here on the forum but am glad to provide an alternative point of view. 😎

Dre', what is up my good man!!! All is well. Happy holidays dude!

DrDre,

If you have any interest in meditation, I highly recommend a retreat called "running with the mind of meditation" at Shambala Mtn Ctr. I went last year and will return this year. Gorgeous trails, ample sitting time and a bunch of cool and positive people. The retreat organizers really lead with their hearts and also happen to be unbelievably strong runners.

Thx. Feel free to PM me the info. I may check it out. My dad is a buddhist. I used to meditate when I was a kid. Im kind of the "alex P. Keaton" of the family spiritually. But it is in me still...

Watch out for some of that woo crap... it makes your brain soft... and opens the door other people putting a wrench in your critical thinking gears... then before you know it, you'll be living here...

My New Year Resolution is to be elected in the Board of Directors of ASA!
HELPPPPPPPPPPP!!!!!

How we doing?

(1) Have kept up the work-out regimen (so far). Already dropped a couple of pounds.

(2) Still watching too much TV.

(3) I've studied, so far, about 2 hours total for the oral boards.

(4) Well... what can I say. When the douchebags stop posting their garbage, so will I.

Copro,

Where did you do your residency? I do not want to go there if all the residents are like you.

Remember, it doesn't matter how high up you climb in life, all that matters is that you are a good person to everybody throughout your journey.

Just food for thought.
