What band do other pre-meds suck for not knowing about?

That is, the band's music is never played on "The X".

And don't get bent out of shape. No one actually sucks because they've never heard of some stupid band that should probably remain an esoteric curiosity...that only smug hipsters or your grandpa listens to.

The Dirtbombs

Dropkick Murphys. Except for Dropkick Murphy because he obviously knows about the Dropkick Murphys.

I met the Dropkick Murphy's at my friend's house and I still have no idea who they are. They sing right?

I'm pre-med!

gym class heroes!

"take a look at my girlfriend..." (cupid's chokehold)

Darkest Hour
Laibach
The Pogues
👍

Aren't you guys all premed?

Anyway, I'd just like to say (nothing to do with the OPost) that even though a band is well known, doesn't mean they suck. At the sametime, some unknown bands are unknown for a reason - for example, a lot of the bands listed in this thread SUCK! lol. but i suppose this all depends on personal taste.

I hope to Zeus that everyone's heard of The Pogues. 👍

You'd be surprised... Its a shame too, b/c If I Should Fall from Grace with God is one of the best songs ever.

I predict this will soon be moved to the off topic forum, and I simply can't belive no one has noted Cowboy Mouth yet. **Jeez!**

The Decemberists
Clap Your Hands Say Yeah
Adam Green and/or The Moldy Peaches
Birdmonster
Of Montreal
The Hold Steady
Guster and/or The LeeVees
Motion City Soundtrack
Rocky Votolato
Saves the Day

...Now go forth unto your iTunes, my brothers and sisters.

i didnt add any, so here's some:

wolfmother
say hi to your mom
the matches
the walkmen...

no... but if like Beirut, I'd like to hear

How about these:
The Fratellis
Brand New
Copeland
Drive-By Truckers
Idiot Pilot
Lovedrug
Rocco Deluca and the Burden
Sleeping At Last
The Tony Danza Tapdance Extravaganza

If nothing else, at least the last one has the coolest name of any band I've ever heard of and....they're really metal.

We're marching on to the Sweet 16....

Cheers,
A (Tar) Heel Among Wolves

I've had "Costello Music" by the Fratellis for about 6 months now, and love the CD, though I deleted them from my list since a band in an iPod commercial can no longer be considered "obscure"

/and yeah, I know that sounds pretentious...

Pearl Jam...you'd be surprised how many pre-meds I've met that have never heard of 'em.

most are not that obscure, its just what i would consider essential:

talking heads
sonic youth
television
siousxie and the banshees
the byrds
big star
felt
the go-betweens
the magnetic fields
jens lekman
silver apples

slightly stoopid
state radio
pepper
ozomatli
gym class heroes
the beautiful girls

Ahh, you beat me to Of Montreal. I just saw them live for the second time and met Kevin Barnes. I'm in love.

As for the others, you've got nice taste.

What I've been into lately:

A Sunny Day in Glasgow
Tapes 'n Tapes
Wolf Parade
Peter Bjorn and John
Broadcast
Beirut
The Teenagers
The Shins
The Zombies

nice list. especially Wolf Parade and Peter, Bjorn and John. I just saw PB&J at SXSW.

If you like Wolf Parade, you would probably like Sunset Rubdown too.

And here's a couple more:
The Unicorns
Islands

hard to imagine that the shins would still be considered obscure... they got as high as #2 on Billboard, IIRC.

though if you pick up "when you land here, it's time to leave, by Flake Music" AND correctly title the songs you can truly call yourself a fan.

wow, did someone discover pitchfork or something?

the answers to this topic are hilarious.

listen to mogwai, autolux, dischord, and touch and go bands. that's all you need. and some definitive jux.

Oh, I definitely know they're not obscure. Especially after everyone seemed to think "New Slang" would "change their life". Just mentioning music I've been playing a lot lately.

I love state radio! I saw them live in this bar it was probably the smallest venue I have ever been to but probably one of the best shows. Well dispatch was probably the best show.

Great thread!

The Junior Varsity
Pilot Speed
The Mobius Band
Doves
Elliott Smith
Sam Roberts
The Real McKenzies

add more later...

roly o trio!!!
for reals yooo, no yea, check em out myspace.com/rolyo

friggin awesome

Pavement is one of the best things man has ever accomplished.

Most people probably know about these already, but I learned not to expect anything, when it comes to music. So, if you haven't, give these a spin:
Against Me!
Belle & Sebastian
David Bowie
The Flaming Lips
Jeff Buckley
My Bloody Valentine
Pixies
The Replacements
The Smiths
Tom Waits

I see I included a lot of the older artists, but you can never go wrong with Bowie, Waits, or the Mats.

Great to see Sondre Lerche, The Pogues, Brendan Benson, The Go-Betweens

Nobody likes an elitist... :meanie:
Anyone Oink?

we apparently have very similar taste in music. i especially second the magnetic fields. probably among my top 5 favorite bands ever.

oh, and have to add wilco.
