Hi,
I wonder what a master's degree is good for if you are a dentist?
I suppose you can to research or teaching, but what about if you are interested doing a specialty program. Is going through a master's program for three years the wise way? The long way for sure.

There isn't anything you can do with a master's that you couldn't do without one, in my opinion. In other words, it isn't a prerequsite for anything.

And, a 3-year master's program is a long one, so hopefully it's something you enjoy! It certainly could help you get into a specialty program, but I wouldn't count on it. In my view the master's could make one of two similar applicants stand out, but it wouldn't bolster a crummy applicant into a great one.

Just make good grades in dental school and score high on the boards.

then you won't need a masters degree to get into a specialty program. An MBA might come in handy for patient management, but not many others really matter once you're done.

Do you have a masters? Masters in Business (MBA) and Public Health (MPH) are both very good to have and apply pretty well to the field. I would think that masters like those would look good. But other ones may not have much effect.

If I had 3 extra years to kill I would get a law degree. that would be fun

Now there's a great signature.

That's a very good question. A lot of things we do dont really have immediate satisfaction. What on earth are we going to do with physiology or the inguinal canal in anatomy?

Why am i doing the combined program? i just want to further my knowledge in dental field. i have always interested in research and maybe i will go into academia. Who knows. When opportunities arrive, I will take them accordingly. Without a start, nothing will get done.
