Hello,

At the end of my senior year I elected to take a "Y" grade for my thesis course due to family circumstances. The grade is listed as "Y" and under the transcript code this is a deferred grade. My university told me to go this route because they do not hand out "I" Incompletes or "NG" No grades for the thesis course. So I graduated and the course will permanently be listed as a Y on my transcript, and after a degree is awarded a grade cannot be changed (IE if I did a post-bac I cannot come back and complete my thesis)

My university said not to worry because it happens quite a bit but I'm worried about how other schools will see this and if it will negatively impact me? My senior year also happened to be my best year, with A's in all of my other courses

Usually the university transcript will explain those grades, but you may want to prepare yourself to describe the circumstances of the "Y".
