I love my Galaxy Note Pro, but there have been a few times I've wished it was actually a laptop. I actually bought and returned a Lenovo Yoga just because I hated the Windows version it had on it.

I draw on my tablet and love the pressure and angle sensitivity on even the built in stylus. (That also irritated me on the Lenovo that I had to buy a fancy stylus.) I got a Korean, but very functional office suite with the Galaxy and I guess I had to buy Word and all the office programs and potentially pay a monthly fee to have them on the surface or lenovo... but I might be misunderstanding. I'm a bit over sensitive about spending money on things that I think ought to be included, so I tend to check out as soon as they mention add on fees.

I may have to bug you, @wheelin2vetmed, about what to get if I get accepted... I want all the benefits of the ease of use and beauty of my Galaxy with a disk drive and a true operating system and no stupid fees for running an office suite.

At your service 🙂. Regarding office suites, I would first check with your university (I'm not sure if you're currently studying at one). I know at my school, we are allowed one free copy of both a Windows operating system, full Microsoft Office, and a bunch of Adobe programs. If you have that availability, I would grab each and just save them or burn them to a DVD for future use. Very few people take advantage of it, but they should.

Microsoft's really made a push for their Office 365 thing, where everything's synced online and you pay a subscription for it. You don't need it. If you have an old computer with Microsoft Office 2010 or something, you can transfer the license to a new computer. You could also buy a new license on eBay for fairly cheap, or you could use something like OpenOffice or LibreOffice which are open source, free office suites that work very well.

Also, a lot of universities are able to offer students free Microsoft software!! I got Office for free.

I was super excited when I found out this year that we can now download Microsoft Office 2016 for free through our email website (outlook). 😀
Right?! I'm glad I decided to check before buying it at Best Buy. If the school doesn't offer it for free, they probably at least offer a good discount on it. It's worth looking into.

I was recently able to get Office 365 with Office 2013 via my old undergrad email account (I graduated in May 2014). I was surprised I was able to do so even though I'm no longer a student. I had been using I think Office XP for years, and then acquired Office 2007 when I got my current laptop last year, so I'm still getting used to all the different features! I was also excited about the free terabyte of cloud storage with OneDrive. Right now I only use it to back up my Word documents, so I don't need anywhere near that much storage, but I lost a ton of documents in a hard drive crash years ago, so I don't take it for granted!

Just saw this in my Quizlet today: https://quizlet.com/help/long-term-learning

I'm going to give the Anki a try after my Quizlet subscription ends, but it seems like this feature gives the same functionality.

They are catching on! Nice! (dumb that it's only iOS mobile though...)

Bumping this thread reminded me that I didn't mention the image occlusion add on that made some of my studying so much easier. For those that want to try Anki out, I recommend getting this add-on too. 🙂

You take an image and block out the parts you want to be tested on and each block will become a new card. You can make it so they're all blocked out when you're being quizzed on one of them, or the rest of them are still shown. Example:

I use it for charts, mostly.

How are there that many things to identify on that image oh god

TBH that image terrifies me more than all the debt I'll have when all is said and done.

(Just kidding. Sort of. )

Everything has a name in anatomy. Every bump and divet on the bones, every nerve, tendon, ligament, and blood vessels have various names! I'm so glad to be 2/3's done anatomy right now. Ironically, I actually miss dissecting our dog.

How are practicals usually carried out? Do they do it with pins and "name that structure", or is it multiple choice? How is it tested?

at UTK they pinned structures and asked what the origin and insertion were or what would happen with x structure in y situation. Or how many of x structure are there.

For our practicals something is typically tagged and then there are 1-2 questions about the tagged part. They could tag a muscle and say "what innervates this?" "What artery feeds this?" "What vein drains this?" "What is the origin/insertion/action of this muscle?" Etc. There is no multiple choice for practicals.

Thank you guys! This is similar formatting to how my anatomy lab practicals were in undergrad. That's what I figured but just wanted to make sure 🙂

Doesn't phase me 😛

But then again, I studied this crap in my free time and not while taking 8 other classes.

Or they asked how that structure differed from the dog/cat/horse/goat.

Or they go "what is the layman's term for when you get X in this horse structure" and you die a little inside because you know the structure, you know the pathophysiology of what happens, you know the name of the actual condition, and you can narrow it down to two different stupid sounding horse people terms... But you can't for the life of you remember which it is. There's no partial credit so babbling all that **** you know won't be helpful.

Dang, in undergrad they just pinned it and asked what it was. But obviously in vet school I'd expect more to be asked of me.

I used websites to make quizzes and used online pictures for bones, but I could only do muscles and arteries/veins by taking pictures of my dissected cat because I feel like it just looks different from the cartoonish images.

Sorry I realize I'm new to the conversation so I'm responding to things posted not so recently

I think bog spavin is totes a name that makes perfect sense.... Same with windpuffs. And all the other names that I can't remember even though I'm an equine vet....

I had a question on NAVLE about bog spavin vs bone spavin and I still can't get those straight. Who comes up with these names?

I always appreciated all of these questions because they were free points. But I don't envy anyone that has to learn it in addition to everything else that's piled on.

Sweeney! Bone splints! Kunkers? Heaves. High ringbone. LOW ringbone. Cribbing.
Bucked shins complex. I really like how there's a nice ring to it. That was my answer for any acute lameness in a horse when I didn't have a better answer, just because I liked how it rolled off my tongue.

I didnt even care if it was a cushingnoid pasture ornament. I wanted it to be bucked shins.

That look some horses get when they aren't just chewing on the wood, or lovingly nibbling with a little short intake of air every now and again, but the full grab it as tight as you can lean in, inhale with everything those massive horse lungs can as you lean back to pull on the wood and open every last bit of airspace and really, really crib...
Oh yeah, it's a vice.

And the horses that get the shakes when they haven't had a good puff in a while, but can see their favorite well chewed board a pasture over and, Oh Dear GOD! another horse walked past it and their pacing and **** the ***** human who thought today was a good day to drill... there, there is my board, my sweet, sweet board, I needs it, I wants it, must wrap my teeth on it and die a little inside, my PRECIOUS!
Yeah, it's a vice.

That look though of complete joy, then the I got to have it makes me giggle and sad at the same time.
