Hello!

I am taking my first quarter of ochem now. Unfortunately, all the bad and hard professors for the next quarter ochem are left. Do you think I should postpone second quarter of ochem until spring and take genetics instead? I am scared I’ll forget first quarter of ochem if I do that ://

Depends. There are more factors involved.

1. If not next semester, then fall semester, right? Is Orgo 2 and lab offered during fall semester at your school? Are you sure you will have netter professors that semester?
2. Year you are in school
3. When you plant to take MCAT
4. depends how you did in Orgo I

1. It doesn't matter who you take ochem with -- It's going to be hard no matter the professor. Don't be swayed by the opinions of your peers on professor rating sites as most only post reviews if they either did really awesome or more commonly, they did not get a good grade which is usually due to them not trying hard enough (not always but usually). I would take both courses consecutively. There is no shame in getting a tutor for extra help if needed.

2. ochem 1 and 2 are pretty different, however, it would be beneficial to remember naming and general concepts like pushing electrons as your professors probably won't go over that again unless there are new techniques relevant to ochem 2 reactions.

3. It is still possible to do well with time between ochem courses if you think your next quarter is already tough. ochem is the one course you should be spending most of your time on so if you are already taking super tough courses, beware and take genetics. Alternatively, make sure that the quarter you postpone it to is not even more slammed with tough classes. Success is all about balance!

Disclaimer: I am not very familiar with ochem quarters so if both quarters you are referring to both combine into ochem 1, see #1 and work your butt off. You should definitely take them consecutively.

My college follows quarter system so there are 3 ochem classes I have to take. I am a second year now.

Pick up organic chemistry as a second language. Both books representing each half of the course. Read, do practice problems, and study.

You’ll be fine.
