So I'm signing up for fall09 classes right now, and I am short of some classes to make myself a full time student. I'm still deciding on 1 more upper div. bio course to take. So far, I have taken(or going to take):

-Genetics
-Biochem
-Molecular bio
-Cell Bio
-Developmental Bio
-Neurobiology
-Physio(going to take)
-Microbio(going to take)
-Limnology(going to take, maybe..)

I just need one more bio class, and I don't feel like taking anatomy because I'm not good at pure memorization. Any suggestions? I wish I had my ADA book with me right now...

Also, I would like to take some course outside of the sciences, around 3 courses(1 each quarter) to make myself a full time student because I plan on taking 1 upper div bio course and 1 bio lab each quarter, so I need one more course to make myself a full time student. Should I probably just take some management courses. Would you guys recommend me taking some non-science courses? or some relatively (hopefully) easy science courses for a gpa booster?

Thanks.

Anatomy

It depends on the situation. If you will apply UCLA and UCSF, you have to take biochem anyway. If anatomy is your weakness, take anatomy.I totally agree with Dr. Reo on this matter.

i remembered u went to uci...def. take limnology w/bowler. it should be an easy A although it's pure memorization also. take his lab too, easy A. and management 5 w/eppel is an easy A too.

Think about it, what's one of the most overwhelming first year courses in dental school due to the sheer volume of material? Anatomy. Does your school offer a dissection or cadaver based lab?

oh and a heads up. do not take anatomy at uci. if u really want to, take it during summer cuz i heard that teacher is easier. but it's best to take anatomy at a cc(i'm doing it right now) because:

1)most dental schools are on a semester system, so 4 quarter units = 2.7 semester units...u would have to retake it again, but there's no anatomy lab at uci(isn't that sad?)

2)some dental schools require anatomy WITH LAB anyway...so u would be wasting ur time.

hope this hellps.

no, just lecture.

Not just that, Bowler is one of the best professors I've ever had at UCI - he's totally dedicated to his subject and knows pretty much anything you could possibly know about fresh water ecology. Also, the lab for that class is by far one of the most interesting upper division labs you can take, and I would HIGHLY advise it to any UCI bio major. Every single class you go on a different field trip to a different fresh water ecosystem around campus, it's really cool.

Also, if you're asking questions and talking to him a lot, I hear he writes really great LOR's.

If you're looking for classes to fill a hole in your schedule, look at the Bio 9 series. They offer a huge variety of classes, and most are pretty interesting. As a junior/senior these classes should not be too challenging but at the same time very interesting if you pick the right one. I took Diseases of the 21st Century last Fall and I thought it was great.

Yes, this is one of the biggest jokes about UCI bio - if they can have Limnology, Evolution, Physiology and Neurobiology labs, why can't they have an anatomy lab?

no, it should be if they can have a school of medicine, why can't they have an anatomy lab?

From what I gathered Limnology is easy, like they say you have to be ******ed not to get an A, lol. But what I heard from others is that it isn't THAT easy. But I think I'll still take it.

Oh, hm, the bio 9 series look interesting. For finishing my upper divs lectures, I have Physio in the fall, still unsure what to take for winter, and Limnology for the Spring. I hate how the catalogs aren't updated. Some classes aren't even offered that are listed.

Take anatomy unless you want to regret like me.
I needed 1 more year to finish anatomy 1 and 2 but it seems everyone is saying I should just graduate now instead of wasting time and money on anatomy so I did but I still wish i had anatomy.

Limnology isn't the easiest class there is, but it's definitely very doable to do well if you put the work in. I definitely didn't get an A, but on the other hand I tended to fall asleep in class since the material can be pretty dry.
