I know that I have to take a total of 8 hours of Physics, 8 hours of General Chemistry, 8 hours of Organic Chemistry, 6 hours of English, 3 hours of Biochemistry, 3 hours of Statistics, but how many hours of Biological Sciences? Is it 8 hours (Bio 1 and 2 with the labs) or is it 14 hours (Bio 1 and 2 with the labs, and 2 other upper-division bio-related lecture classes).

If 14 hours of Biological sciences are required to apply to dental school, then currently I have a total of 18/50 credit hours complete: 8 hours of Physics, 3 hours of English, and 7 hours of Biology (Bio1,Bio2, and Bio1 Lab).
I plan on finishing up 8 hours of General Chem this year(2011), 8 hours of Ochem next year(2012), 3 hours of english next year(2012), 3 hours of Stats (Idn when), 3 hours of Biochem (Idn when), and 7 hours of bio (Idn when).

I just want to know which upper-div. bio classes I should take, because I would need 6 hours of bio-related lecture classes, and 1 hour of general bio Lab 2.

It varies from school to school, so I would recommend that you look at the specific schools web pages to find out.

I think the standard is 1 full year of bio with 1/4 of credit hours being lab (so 8 hrs, with 2 of them being lab)

I would recommend you take Anatomy, Physiology, and Microbiology in edition (if you can fit it in with the business classes + pre-reqs). My school also offers pathophysiology, which is a really helpful class if it's offered for non-nursing majors at your school.

I know I am an old non-trad and all, but shouldn't this be 'idk'? Kids these days:laugh:

I think only a handful of schools require calculus, but if you're doing a business major you probably will take that...but to address your post, I would suggest (in addition to what has already been mentioned) genetics and molecular/cellular biology.

There are no exactly how many upper bio classes YOU NEED TO TAKE to get into dental school because it can depend on the GPA, test result, etc. But it always help to take as many bio classes as possible and do well in them.

I didn't have to take some of the bio classes but I am taking extra bio classes to show adcom that I can handle the upper bio classes. Maybe this may help you as well since your back ground is not in science like myself.

Good luck

I liked Microbio, biochem, physiology, and anatomy. I thought these were good uppers to have as a predent.

Thanks guys. I guess I will hold those classes for later.
@jazane08: I have already completed all the Calc courses. I'm just worried about completing pre-reqs for Dental school and getting through my business degree plan on time.
