What college did you go to and what was your major?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
YAY! A fellow Penn Stater! I'm going to be a senior Veterinary and Biomedical Sciences major at Penn State this fall. Hope to be accepted to Penn (among others) for vet school next year! *nervous laughter*

B.A. in Biology - Drew University (Madison, NJ)
PhD (almost) in Microbiology & Molecular Genetics - New Jersey Medical School.

Off to PennVet in the fall...if I can get my dissertation done!

I'm in a similar boat GellaBella

BA in Biology Amherst College
MS in Animal Science CSU, Fresno (Almost- need to finish thesis)

Davis Vet school this fall (if I complete the above eeek)!

Davis Vet school this fall (if I complete the above eeek)!

Yep. Also writing. Well, I'm sure you can see how productive the writing has been so far by my posting on SDN instead... 🙄

edit: My lit review is almost done I swear it...

and all these kids here and on our fb group who are like OMG DONE WITH SCHOOL and hoping the summer goes by really really fast are making me crotchety.

I'm all like, shut up and get off my lawn!!! :diebanana:

A fact we Nittany Lions like to boast frequently, it seems. Though my god, did it bring a lot of controversy this year. You wouldn't believe how many laws/rules they tried to change in regards to alcohol in town and on campus. The university itself is certainly NOT happy with that ranking!

Obviously, Penn State, BS in animal biosciences, off to enemy territory (aka Ohio State) this fall.

And here's a third from PSU! 😀 Graduated in 2009 with B.S. in Toxicology and B.S. in Animal Bioscience. Attending NC State this year!

Good luck in Columbus - I have no doubt that you'll be loyal to the blue and white!

Bachelor of Science in Wildlife Ecology and Conservation, University of Florida Aug. 2008.
LSU Vet School Class of 2014! Plan on focusing on wildlife/exotic medicine

Finishing up my junior year at UCSB with a Zoology major.

UCSB's slipping down the party school top ten! It was like 7th last I checked. Which was admittedly a while ago.

I've been around a bit as well... 😛

- Vassar College '07 - BA in Psychology (catch-all "i have no idea what i want to do with myself" major)
- University of Pennsylvania - MSW, although I didn't actually earn the degree (left the program after the first year)
- West Chester University of PA - no degree, but did ALL of my pre-reqs there

Heading to Cornell in August for vet school!

Undergrad: Ohio State, BS Animal Sciences, minors in Zoology and Public Health

Graduate (Fall 2010): Ohio State, Master's in Public Health, Veterinary Public Health specialization..... and, when I find out who my new advisor will be, possibly the Global Health specialization as well.

In the future when I actually apply, I'm thinking about vet school in Ohio (surprise), but honestly, I'll go where I'm accepted.

I'm enrolled at Berry College (Rome, Ga) as a double major in Animal Science and Biology with a Chemistry minor.
Since I'm a TN resident I'm banking on going to UTK. Planning on applying to Washington State as well.

Texas A&M University College Station Tx

B.S. : WFSC concentration : Vertebrate Zoology
M.S. : Biology, zoology

and......in the fall I get to go to the vet school here...WHOOP! Class of 2014!

My BS will be coming from Bridgewater State College 😍 with a major in Biology w/concentration in Biomed/Molecular and a minor in Biochemistry.

I am applying this year to vet school:scared:: My list is Colorado, Kansas, Louisana, Minnesota, Mississipi, Missouri, Tufts and Washington.

So excited and nervous at the same time!

Hope College (which none of you have ever heard of)

Have too! a girl I went to high school with goes there and a guy my dad works with went there! It's in Holland, right? Supposed to be a really good school.

edit: I noticed after posting this that other people had heard of it, too, so a little redundant. oops.

Florida Southern College B.S. in Biology and minor in Psychology.

I'm planning on applying to VMRCVM, Missouri, Wisconsin, Tufts, Glasgow, and Edinburgh!

I'm a (now) senior bio major. I'll be applying to Tufts, Cornell, and UPenn but I'll probably wait until next cycle. I'm a newbie to pre-vet so I have very few experience hours (1000ish lab animals but ~100 SA and zero LA) and feel like I wouldn't be as competitive as I could be if I took a year or two off. Either way I am posting here because I'm excited to be pre-vet!

I received my B.S. and majored in small animal science at Delaware Valley College in Doylestown, PA (National Farm School!). No vet school acceptances yet - but I have two waitlists that are burning rubber!

😀

Hey, I almost went there! Then I decided that NH was prettier than PA, and it was cheaper to keep a horse up here, and that was basically the extent of my decision making....

Short version...

1988, BA, Psychology, University of Central FL
1994, JD, University of Baltimore, School of Law
2010 - off to VMRCVM!

That's really cool. I know that it does cost an arm and a leg to keep a horse on DelVal, and that is on top of it already costing an arm and a leg just to have a horse in general.

Northeastern University, hockey and illicit substances (didn't work out so well, no actual degree from here!)
Youngstown State University, BS Computer Science (woo Penguins!)
University of Central Florida, BS Molecular Biology and Microbiology, honors in major
University of California, Davis, MS Animal Biology

Starting vet school at UC Davis in the Fall.

It's been a fun ride. 😎

Wow! I often felt like we had something in common... I was over at BU majoring in Landsdowne street and illicit substances. Unfortunately, I finished my degree there and my GPA stands. Should have bowed out and started anew elsewhere...

A'well.

I almost went there! I LOVED the campus and the area (and got a really good scholarship). It reminded me of my high school(I went to an agricultural high school).

Lol, guess I was asking for it. 😛

I think most people who go there love it.

Shoot, I thought UCSB was the CA party school, I didn't realize it was ranked in the nation for that!

B.S. UC San Diego
Vet school in Wisconsin in the fall!

Mount Holyoke College, AB Applied Mathematics
Dartmouth College, Bachelor of Engineering
Stanford University, MS Mechanical Engineering
San Jose State, dirty dropout after i finished my prevet courses

Headed to UC Davis in the fall.

I'm surprised chico isnt on that list of party schools.

Arizona State University, B.S. Biology as of 3 weeks ago... applying to vet school this cycle!

P.S. I'm pretty sure ASU was the #1 party school when I started but I see they've slipped to #20! I knew that place was getting lamer by the minute... hahahaha.

I'm all like, shut up and get off my lawn!!! :diebanana:

👍 Hilarious! I feel that way about a lot of "kids" and I'm only 21... 😛

B.S. Animal Science, Purdue University, 1998
M.S. Reproductive Physiology, Purdue University, still in progress since 1999 - 3 classes that are now biting me in the butt.

Ha... I started at Penn State, and transferred the heck outta there after one semester! :-\ I wasn't from PA, and apparently needed to be near a city and not in a school with crazy parties happening every.single.night.

Ha, no worries. Out of state tuition is ridiculous (believe me, I know!), and if you are more of a city person... well, you're surrounded by cows and mountains in every direction, so...

to add some more diversity...

Sophia University (located in Tokyo), BA in Socio-Anthropology & minor in History.

haha doesn't get more random than that, I bet.

First choice: Anywhere I get in, but aiming for VMRCVM and NCSU. Davis is a long shot, but also applying for the sake of it.

Okay so my school location isn't as "out there" but my major and minor are probably just as random.....

University of Florida, BS in Mathematics & minor in Classics

Oh, and I'm going to NCSU in the August!!!! So excited!

Haha! Believe me, I am no partier. I lived in the nerd dorms and was usually stuck in my lab on Friday nights running Western blots. 😛

...except I graduated with a degree in Graphic Design nine years ago, moved to California and worked professionally in the field before deciding a year and a half ago that I wanted to pursue vet med. Have already taken most of my prereq's at UCLA while working full-time and am about to quit my job so that I can take a full course-load at a community college that offers Animal Science classes while bolstering my clinical experience resume.

Been a great experience so far. Plan to apply to Davis, Western, Oregon State, Penn and maybe a couple others next year.

Oh, and I was proudly part of the reason why PSU made it to the top of that Princeton Review party school list. We are...

Another Terp...my parents live near campus (as do I for the next um, 4 weeks 😱 ), so I remember when UMCP was a real party school. They went through a phase where there were riots in downtown College Park after every basketball game. They were happy if we won, mad if we lost. My dad would drive me to my first job at a bakery and Route 1 would be littered with bits of paper and whatever was left from people burning couches, etc., in the middle of the road. :d

Heading to UC Davis in the fall. Happy to be headed to something more of an ag school. MD has all but forgotten its status as a land-grant university. There have been op-eds in the Diamondback complaining about the smell from the tiny campus farm (less than 10 acres, with 8 horses, a couple dozen sheep, and a few cattle, with pigs part of the year). When I was in the Equestrian Club, they started padlocking the paddocks every night and the gate to the farm on football game days because some geniuses thought it was funny to let all the animals free at night after the football game (multiple times).

Undergrad: BS in Mechanical Engineering w/ a minor in Biology from Southern Methodist University (which except for my fellow Texans, I'm sure no one has heard of)

Vet School: Texas A&M!

Well, when you call it Southern Methodist University it sounds vaguely unfamiliar, but if you said SMU, then we know ya.

Haven't applied to vet school yet, but...

College: Monmouth University, in NJ (which you've never heard of 😉)

Major: BS in biology with a concentration in marine and environmental biology

Minors: Psychology and Chemistry

I'm at University of Maryland. Started out as an Animal Sciences major, switched to Agricultural Science and Technology. Was supposed to graduate this spring but due to the switch in majors, I'll be graduating next spring. The bonus to this is that I can take more classes and hopefully boost my GPA.

Applying to Colorado, Iowa, Kanasas, Mississippi, Minnesota, Tuskegee, VMRCVM (my in-state), Western, St. George's and UPEI. Whew.

Ah, the good ol' days. They really have forgotten their status as a land-grant school and it makes me mad. I've heard plenty of rumors about Dr. Mote wanting to pave the farm and make it a parking lot. It's a pathetic farm compared to other schools and I hope to get in somewhere with more of an agriculture focus, too. Not to mention living in CP is not at all helpful when searching for large animal vets to shadow...

I'll be a junior in the fall at Boston University, working towards my BA in Biology. I have absolutely no idea where I'm applying yet!

So I'll add mine:

BA in history and BS in entomology, Purdue University
Finishing my MS in entomology, and starting my PhD

I'll go to vet school anywhere they'll take me!

You should know that's tempting fate, lol 😀

Haha. I was sort of hoping nobody would know about it, so I can retain some sort of anonymity, (my uni is sort of small). But hey, it's super cool that someone's heard of it 🙂

Well, when you call it Southern Methodist University it sounds vaguely unfamiliar, but if you said SMU, then we know ya.

I grew up in Illinois so when I told my high school classmates that I was going to attend SMU, they asked me if that stood for Southern Missouri University. After that I assumed no one outside of TX had heard of the school.

Hey I'm from Illinois, too!

No but really, people there don't know where Auburn is, either.
