What compliments do you love from professors?

Outside of, "Hey! Good job on that exam!"

I love it when professors will tell you you just asked a very good question because it means they think you know more than just the superficial mechanics of the problem. It especially makes me feel good when a professor uses expletives and says, "good question!"

i love it when my professor pulls out a cigarette and says "you were incredible last night."

my TA once said "excellent job on that last exam" when i was in the top 1% of a 600 student class.

it's hard to get into contact with professors in huge schools, though.

I had a prof tell me that I was the only student she's ever taught that she would trust as her doctor. *pats self on back*

Also, my organic prof told me the day of our final that there was no need for me to take the exam, since I would just mess up the curve. Although I would have liked this info BEFORE studying an entire week for the final, it was still nice to hear.

When they ask you for a copy of a paper you wrote and then it becomes part of the reading for the course.

when they stare at you sharply and scream, "Go away you damn gunner!", you know you're doing everything right and will get a great LoR. It's also a great indication because it means that they enjoy being harassed, and if you do it enough you can get extra fractions of points.

I love it when a professor tells me that I'm his "best student, evAR!!!111!!!" Other people's opinions go a long way to increase my personal self-worth. 😉

The best complement I've had from my prof. is when she was handing out exams back and gets to mine, she hands it to me and says "Everyone, we have a new teacher in class". I had made a 100 on that exam.

I got an email from a histology professor telling me that I got the high score on both the practical and written portions of the final exam and beat the next highest score by 10 points. She concluded by saying, "I knew you had it in you."

I especially remember the praise because I was skating on the A/B border and I really wanted to knock that test out of the park. Walking out of the exam room I was scared that I didn't do as well as I wanted, but obviously my fears were ungrounded. Mostly I think I was just thrilled that I made the prof proud.

The best experience I ever had was in my solid mechanics course. I went in to see the professor after the final to find out my grade, and he mentioned that, out of a total of six problems, there were two that no one in the class besides me got right.

Considering that this class has a reputation for being difficult at my school and it's not even in my major, I was pleased.

a humanities prof once told me...that it was a shame that i decided to go into a scientific type field like medicine cause the humanities could use a person like me.

that felt nice. not nice enough to get me out of medicine but still nice 😉.

okay, here's one:
My organization and administration prof says to "complete the assignment as if it were to be published"... the following year she says "complete the assignment as if it were to be published, using this one (holding example of my pubished article) as an example.

I always like it when profs tries to convince you to major in "their" area of study. Happened to me in a few times in Chem and Bio, but never in English (what I actually ended up majoring in)🙄

In the last lab of my 1st semester of PChem Lab, the professor said that I was the only one who understood the quantum mechanics lab and gave me 100 on that lab.

My Writing for Bio prof used my essays as examples of good writing often enough that everyone in the class could recognize my style without my name even being on it.

I wrote a research paper once on the role of two proteins pVHL and HIF and their role in the hypoxic response of cancer cells. When we got to the section of the course concerning hypoxia and cancer, the professor asked me to give the lecture since "I knew more in the field than he did." That was a compliment for sure since he is fairly well known (not in cancer biology, but nonetheless) in the field of cell biology.

My American Film prof used to keep copies of papers that he thought were especially good to serve as examples for the following years. I was happy when he asked permission to use one of mine. 😀

He also scared the crap out of me one time. I had just gotten to class, sitting way in the back. He sees me and says "if you have a minute after class, I'd like a word with you". So, of course, I get scared, thinking, "crap, what did I do", for the whole class. So, at the end of class, I go up to the front and have to wait a few minutes for other people to ask questions, etc. Well, finally, he kicks them all out and says, "I just wanted to let you know that I'm teaching a class on film and plays next semester. It's by permission only, and I think you'd really enjoy it, and I think you'd do really well in it." 😳 Unfortunately, I was taking another class that conflicted. 😛 Still, he wrote one of my LORs for the pre-med committee. I really liked that class. Except for having to write a paper on "The Unbearable Lightness of Being". 🙁

Edit: I should point out that I majored in English and Bio, not film.
