Hi,
I am a premed on my (hopefully) final college year.
I went to a big state school with A LOT of various groups and clubs.
So, my question arise: does it constitute extracurricular activies if you just pay the membership fee for a club and then show up for a few meetings? I think this is what most "member" in a typical club do. Do you actually get any recognition regarding your medschool application just by being a member?
I find that it is really hard to find a good club to get involved with during my 1st college years so i did not bother trying for those officer spot. Later in the year, I had made friends aldy and spend all my free time hanging out and stuffs.

The category on the AMCAS application is called "Experiences". It is called EC here for short. The categories include Athletics, Artistic Endeavors, Hobbies and Advocations, Awards & Scholarships, Employment-Military, Employment non-military, Volunteer - clinical, Volunteer non-clinical, Research, Presentation, Publication, Conference Attended, Leadership. If there are others, I've forgotten them. It is not necessary to have one in each category. AMCAS lets you list up to 15 and up to 3 may be designated as most meaningful and you are given extra space to write about those. So, it is not just clubs but also volunteering, writing for the college paper, holding a job, doing a research project, etc.

Thank you, I will mostly be using the TMDSAS but I reckon it should be similar.
