hey ppl my name is sheila. i take the mcat in 5 days. I cant seem to raise my score in verbal, i keep getting 5,6, 7 on the aamc while i keep gettting 9 and 10s for ps and bs. the problem is am african and english is my second language, i have been in America only 3 years and although i can speak english fluently i cant seem to understand what the passages are saying. My gpa is 3.74 and i just want to know if theres any chance i can get into med school assuming i can pull off a 25(V5,P10,BS10). i am very worried

25 MCAT is not high enough for MD schools in general. With supposedly the verbal score of 5, it will be very difficult to aim for even DO and low-tier MD schools. If I were you, I would aim at improving your verbal with many practice questions (like hyperlearning verbal workbook) and then take the MCAT in the future when you are ready, instead of taking it in 5 days.

If you do not feel ready, postpone the MCAT. Verbal is the hardest section to improve in and it's doubtful that any significant progress can only be made in 5 days. Take the MCAT when you are seeing the results you want. It's possible for you to get into med school with a 25 MCAT and a 3.74 GPA, but a 5 verbal score might get you screened out of a lot of places.

There are tons of resources for you to use to improve (TPR Hyperlearning, EK 101, TBR, etc.). Use them!

If you had 13+ on PS and BS then you would have a chance to explain yourself... But considering those (9/10) are low, you really don't have av excuse.

If you can't understand English fast enough - med schools may think you won't be able to keep up.

Just do your best. It might turn out better than you expected. VR has always been my lowest and in general is usually a best/worst with most people, but just focus on reading each passage and understand the basic gist of the passage. If all else fails, try and get through all 6 and guess at the last passage. Not much you can do. Then you can start working on verbal after taking it if you want to retake it.

I get the second language thing; both my parents were also born in Africa and English is the 2nd language as well. Both aren't tech savvy either, but just practice and it will hopefully work out for you in the end. 5 in VR is a little low, hopefully it'll be at least 2 points higher.
Good luck 🙂
