so i've gotten an acceptance into st. georges program for january. recently i found out i have an interview offer from tulane that i set up for nov. 30th. lately i was preparing myself to go to SGU, but with this interview, which i was not expecting, i would love to go to tulane. knowing that tulane takes about 2-4 weeks to get back after an interview, do you think its possible to wait to hear back from them and still have time to prepare going to SGU?

if i get rejected (around late december), is 3-4 weeks long enough to get FAFSA/loan applications turned in and ready for school in mid january? im not sure if there's a processing time or what not with these things. i have not been notified that there is a deadline to these applications...can anyone help? bc i would hate to jeorpardize my acceptance at SGU AND not get into tulane...

i know this sounds confusing, but i'm not sure how to clarify so please ask questions

hm...that's a toughy. I'm very much opposed to Caribbean schools if you have any other option (I'm also very pro-Tulane!). I don't know your exact stats, but is this your first time applying? I see you've applied to a combo of MD and DO schools, and I think that's great. Would you mind taking off another year if you don't get accepted to an MD or DO program this year? If not, then you might want to see if you could defer at SGU and go for Tulane and any subsequent interviews.

Many DO schools interview after January (according to a friend of mine), and Tulane I know is a great program. I wouldn't have applied Caribbean until MD and DO options were exhausted. Can you ask St. Georges to start in the summer or fall? I would try that.

Yeah I would wait until the Fall '10 semester to matriculate to SGU ONLY if you don't get into any US MD or US DO programs.

It wouldn't hurt to ask SGU to matriculate Fall '10. Make sure you have a good reason, however, as just saying "I'm interviewing other places" may seem a little inconsiderate to SGU. Maybe work a job/shadow/volunteer/research and ask for a chance to continue and finish?

It's definitely a tough situation, but I definitely think it's worth seeing if you get into Tulane. I was also accepted to SGU for January, so I know all about their deferring policy. The short answer is: they don't have one. When I decided I wanted to wait and see if I could get in anywhere for the fall, this is what I was advised to do: I sent a formal email to my admissions counselor at SGU requesting to be considered for the August class. They don't guarantee that you will be re-accepted, and doing this forfeits your spot in the January class. But basically the admissions committee re-reviews your application and considers you for the August class. So, it's up to you to think about your stats, and if you feel like you're a competitive applicant for SGU, they'll probably take you again. But it's a risk to be aware of. You should definitely also give them a legitimate reason other than waiting on US schools. I told them that it was for financial reasons. Also, FYI, they told me it would take 2 weeks, and it's been a month and I still haven't gotten an answer. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions about this!
