What do I need to do to step my game up?

I think you will need to show them you can do well in upper level bios too like biochem or micro or cell bio. But as long as you do well in the upper bios, & chems & as long as you do well on the DAT, you should have a good shot. Show an increasing trend in your gpa. Also you can have an unrelated major and get into dental school..your major does not really matter, as long as you do well.

I am a Classics major at so and so university. My Freshman year I was a physics major and screwed up royally. F in General Chem I. C In Bio I and D+ in Biology II. I retook Chem I and received a B-. I took G. Chem II and got a C+. I have a B in Algebra for the Modern College Student( I know, long class name right lol) I have a 4.0 in my major (which I am very good at.) I do not know my GPA for the sciences. I still have Physics I, II, Organic I,II, Biochemistry I . I will be a junior in fall and I will apply for D school in may. If I do really well in Organic I and II and Physics I and II (as in A's) Will I have a chance, without post bacc? I was also diagnosed with ADD my sophomore year following the death of a close family member. not to make excuses but....yeah. Sorry for all the grammatical errors, I'm really tired. Basically my Aunt told me I have no chance because of my unrelated major. What do I need to do to step up my game and get in?

Just a couple things...So if I understood this correctly, you'll be a Junior this coming fall and you'll be applying this year? Your chances will take a huge hit if that's the case. I know technically you could get an acceptance by meeting the minimum required by the schools, but it is very difficult and very uncommon to get in without a degree.

2nd thing.....What's your Aunt's area of expertise? Is she a dentist, on a dental/medical school admissions committee, or is she just a negative family member? No disrespect. I've come across a lot of people (in my family and at my school) that told me I couldn't get into dental school. Being a non-science major would have been a rarity in getting admitted in the past, but that's not the case now-a-days, as Doc Toothache has mentioned in several posts.

Just keep working hard and you'll get there! Don't let negative people get you down or make you doubt yourself. 👍
