I've been taking the Kaplan online course and found that each question, when you're reviewing it has a "Opportunity Value" as well as a difficulty level. The value is given a rating usually between 2-5 stars. What exactly does this rating mean? I can't find info on it.

Thanks

Good question. I couldn't find the answer either.

i think it's their way of saying how often that particular subject might appear on the actual mcat. but imo everything has an equal opportunity of appearing on the exam. i honestly ignore that on the answer explanation tab.

I want to know because they wouldn't place an analysis feature if it didn't serve a purpose. The way I've thought about Opportunity Value has been that it correlates to how many people missed the question. For example, if a small percentage of people got the question right, then the Opportunity Value of of that question is 5 stars while a question that everyone got right would only have an Opportunity Value of 3 stars. I thought that it correlated to the opportunity to gain points that most missed...

But that's just MY theory. Any other theories? .... Or does anyone else know for sure?

I just called up the main Kaplan Academic Center and asked them. They said that the Opportunity Value shows how frequently that sort of question shows up on the MCAT. A 5-star question for example is a "must-know" because it has a much better chance of showing up on the MCAT than a less frequent 3-star question.
