What do students do during the summers? I assume that you are off during the summers or is this not the case? Maybe the first two years and then straight through?

I did research to (hopefully) improve my chances of matching. I worked for 4.5 of the 5 weeks we had off.

Depends on which school you go to. Most schools give you a full summer in the 1st year. We got a month off in our second year, which most people use for moving to their new locations for 3rd year.
3rd year summer: typically take August off to study for step 2 boards.
4th year: any time off is usually for interviews

But like I said, some schools vary with time off.
