What do you do while waiting for the mail?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
the worst part about the waiting is that, since it is finals time, i don't really have anything structured to do....i just procastinate from studying for awhile, check mail, check status pages, email, etc. study a bit, and then go back to procastinating....or i just come up with useless questions to post on sdn in order calculate acceptance probabilities and acceptance scenarios in my head....yep, waiting sucks.

but this isn't as bad as waiting for the mcat scores was....that was definitely the worst waiting i've ever done.

You can get your letters faster by checking your mail more frequently. It's called the Law of Induced Effects.

I could not sleep the night before the mcat scores were posted.

I feel exactly the same way, Zinjanthropus!

Somehow I forgot which day the scores were made available, so I had a nice surprise one morning. 🙂

I doubt I can forget what's coming now, though. 🙁

I took the MCATs and completely forgot about them until my parents called me up to say that some kind of test scores had arrived. That was okay but I had to wait about a week since my parents wouldn't open them.

I third (?) Zinjanthropus. Procrastinate, procrastinate, procrastinate... I wonder how long I'm going to be running to check the mail before I finally get something. It's worse than the MCAT for me, because I have no idea if or when it's coming. For the MCAT I just popped online on the designated day, and voila! No nebulous anxiety at when the hell I'll know.

I have a feeling this is gonna be a LONG wait.

Hey, maybe I'll fill out a profile for MDapplicants.com. That'll waste another 5 minutes.

since im done with exams now, i sit around and do nothing. watch tv, read or surf this website and others.
i check emails constantly and await the snail mail eagerly.

its definitely worse than the MCAT scores. i forgot about the august scores in october. my brother knew my password, since i had given it to him last time to look it up at school fo because our phoneline was out. i woke up that morning of october and had away messages from my brother saying congrats on the higher score. i thought he was joking around with me. my whole family knew my scores before i did. they were more worried about it than me.

i live in a basement apt, so my owners give me my mail. they've been good about it so far, but there's always this lingering thought that maybe they missed something...this process is making me so paranoid. stinks.

Learn the postman's every move.... secretly stalk him from your window. Learn how he wears his socks, if he has fuzzy dice in the window, and if he's right or left handed. Being an informed postal stalker pays.

i hear ya on the paranoia... i'm starting to think the people i live with are hiding my mail from me on purpose.. the worst is when i get all excited when i finally do get a letter from a school only to open it up and read: your file is still pending

i think i will play shockwave games instead of studying now

it can potentially last up to 30 minutes depending on how many schools you applied to...😀

plus it gives you something to do after you recieve letters of acceptance or rejection or waitlist...in the downtime after getting some info...you can update your profile.

the lovely cycle we create for ourselves...

Is that part of physics? or what?

Plus, the refresh window on my browser window is totally worn away from checking my email (like schools are going to be emailing me at 3 in the morning) and refreshing SDN over and over and over again

y can't my soc paper be as much fun as SDN 🙁

I have this ditzy postal person who occasionally forgets to deliver mail, or delivers it to the house adjacent to mine (I live in a four-plex). Well, the woman who lived next door moved out last week, and I've been fearing that the postwoman will decide that I'm the one who actually moved, and fail to deliver my mail. This has caused me to crouch near the door, balefully eyeballing the mailwoman through the window when she comes near, ready to spring out should she forget to come to my mailbox. Waiting sucks.

Yes, the Law of Induced Effects is a fundamental law of physics. In this case, it's similar to negative pressure. Checking your mail more frequently removes new mails as they arrive. This creates negative pressure, drawing still more mails toward you. You may get your letters as quickly as one month earlier. Some applicants have received interviews and acceptances solely due to this inductive effect. You can nearly guarantee an acceptance to Harvard by chanting "Harvard Harvard Harvard" every time you open your mail. Be careful to annunciate clearly, as some applicants have been admitted to Habbard, which is a GED school.

Anyone else find themselves resenting weekends because you know that status pages won't be updated until (potentially) monday? I think this is a real sign of psychopathology on my part.
(of course, mail does come on saturday, but I have yet to receive an invite/acceptance on sat.)

The only thing saving me is a job (except for the fact that I sit in front of my e-mail all day and frantically search for good news)... but then again, I do rush home everyday to the mailbox. It seems that a cruel trick is being played on me, and that all of the junk mail of weeks past have decided to come at one time. So I throw everything away in the garbage near my box, and then walk away in utter disappointment... 🙁

I masturbate incessantly -- definately the procrastionation method I've found to work the best... SDN and playing piano rounding out the top three. 😎 😎

I'm in a horrible rut right now. I go between Tribes 2, studying for my finals, and sleeping.

God help me make it until the letter(s) get here!

😕

I try to go about my existence in a meaningful way. I figure what is done is done and if you lose sleep over something that is out of your hands, you won't accomplish anything.

Go to the gym.

Walk.

Read.

Ride a bike.

Heck, have lots of sex.

Just remain strong brotha!

I listen to lots of Slipknot. Trust me.

Works like a charm, i don't know about playing the piano though. I would simply double up on the masturbating.😉
