Also do you guys drink energy drinks like 5 hrs energy to keep you going for long periods of time through arduous experiments?

no need, the pure excitement of science is enough to keep me in lab long hours....haha but seriously, if I know I'm gonna be in lab for a long time, I'll grab a coffee in the middle of the afternoon...depends on
the experiments as well, I need to do a lot of fine dissection stuff so I can't have a lot of caffeine
I actually don't find it that hard to fast during draw-out procedures... for me it's easy to lose track of time when you are focused on some pressing issue
I'm getting ready to head into a Class 100 clean-room to do a beta-islet cell isolation for transplant
It usually takes us about 9-10 hours, and we typically get to go outside the facility once for 10-20 mins (the 10 hours straight on my feet bother me mores.. don't let anybody fool you... Crocs are a CROC OF **** as far as orthopedic footwear goes). I'm usually more concerned with using the washroom, but I usually grab a quick bite at the hospital cafeteria (terribly limited and horrible selection health-wise).
Today I'm taking 4 waffers of store-brand honey/cinnamon grahman crackers with me.
After it's over, I'll probably check the board, slam some sort of hideous sandwhich, and pass out until the next one 😳

In clinics.... don't really have the means typically to have food around, unless you are on OB/GYN or something and have a "lounge" to sit in while you wait for babies to be born.
For me, medicine was full of free food (usually free breakfast and lunch daily) so I didn't go hungry. Other services were less fruitfull.
In lab we had a coffee machine, so there was always coffee available. I didn't really have much a need to snack during the day. If I did, that would probably mean that I was just sitting around and NOT working.

When I first wake up I'll sometimes have coffee, but a couple hours after that I always feel 😴. I've found that if I go w/o caffeine for a month or so I just get used to it and feel pretty steady throughout the day.

This is one of the reasons I miss doing research at a hospital... No drug reps allowed on base. There was free lunch every Tuesday, along with free pens and mugs. *sigh*
Theres this Jamaican street vender outside that sells amazing food. (if you're from my university you know what i'm talking about) Its amazing every time i have it and his hot sauce is awesome. I refuse to go to any MD/PhD program that does not have similar street venders because it just won't be the same.

Jesus, is there anyone here who isn't in love with the carts? The cafeteria has 33 oz diet Dr Pepper for $0.93 - THAT IS UNBEATABLE. I *heart* the caf.

Hahaha maybe i'm in the minority but I avoid soda when possible. Lol when I was young I was really really obese because we were immigrants and didn't know how bad soda was. So now they're my worst enemy.
Now i've worked my way to uberbuff

In lab, I keep coffee cups and a box of tea bags (free hot water dispenser down the hall) and like to bring in Diet Coke and fruit for the munchies.
Fruit is less portable in clinics though so I used to do energy bars on surgery (bleh... hope to never see a PowerBar again - like a Tootsie Roll gone horribly wrong). If I thought I would get an actual meal at some point, I'd just bring in a homemade trail mix of almonds, dried cherries, and a few dark chocolate chips - filling and portable and yummy, healthy also if a bit calorie-dense.
Depends on your access to storage spaces really - are we assuming you have a locker/call room to store stuff? or a fridge? or just what fits in your pocket and won't go bad?
