I have noticed that there seems to be many Indian applicants for the international dental programs. I don't know if this is because alot of indians post here in the website or that there are really many many indian dentists here in the u.s.
Anyway, my question is that do you think that having so many applicants from the same country makes it tougher for you to get into the programs? Or that it doesn't make any difference.
I have also noticed that many of the Indians score rather high on their NBDE exams and TOEFL, so theoretically that should make you all very desirable candidates.....but with so many with such high scores from the same country...how many can one school take?
Although I have heard that some schools do accept many indians overwhelmingly. For the majority of their open seats.
Anyway, what do you guys think? I am curious.

Thanks 🙂

when u go for an interview they don't care which country u r from all the want to know is that u r worth this program or not since there r so many schools with ethnic diversity liking all of us will get chance! yes there are indians that dosen't mean u don't have less chances to get in!

I agree. There is a misconception that the Advanced Standing programs operate under national-origin (or politically incorrect term of "racial") quota... I don't believe that's the case. However, there is a quota for "if you have to ask how much the tuition is, then you cannot apply here...". So if you can afford their fees, then you will undoubtedly have a chance! 😉

Has any of you checked out UCSF's tuition? It's quite puzzling how they only gave us the tuition for 1 quarter and it didn't include the miscellaneous fees... so when I did the maths, the tuition fee for 1 year came out to the grande total of :

US$ 134,868!! And if you do 2 years, then wouldn't you rather invest that money into something more worthwhile like real-estate or retirement funds? What is your priority??

UCSF admissions must believe that dollar bills grow on trees outside America?? Sigh!

😕 Any more comments?

hey!
I am really not sure how you count fees for UCSF $134,868/year. They have written $12,245 / Quater(4 quaters). means $48980/ year for tution fees & $ 21,472 is the fees for instuments & other things so total will be $ 70452 for a year. + staying expenses will be 13,000 or more. so let me know if i missed something in this calculation.

bye.🙂

I tend to disagree with people in this thread. There are 5 indians in 14 in our school... so thats a significant proportion of the class strength, but the indians have the highest scores of the people in the class, none of the others have that kind of scores. I think its harder for indians to get in and the scores have to be really high to get in, but for other student groups it s easier to get in.
This is my view from my vantage point in my school.

Cultural studying/educational habits.

If that were the case, all schools will be like yours (about Indians proportion in the class). Rather than most having a greater number of Indians compared to other groups.

Saravs, what do school do you attend?

I still don't get this saying. AdComs know that eventually most applicants will manage to get the money, one way or another. So, based on this everyone stands a chance, rigth?

Hey there.

My apologies! I miscalculated. I thought the instrument fee was charged each quarter when I should only have added it for once. So that was the mistake in the calculation!

Thanks guys for picking that up.

Lastly, meggs, the point about only rich people goto advanced standing was me being sarcastic! Of course, people will find a way to come out with money...

Food for thought, eh?

Cheers
